if say we hired people from a near by country where people want to get out of it

and as a reward not only to this get this crap pay but them and their family are made citizens after the farming season ends

But 11 an hour? I imagined people doing it for minimum wage or something. Again, you aren't going to survive on 11 an hour but it's still higher than i thought.

The path this followed in Florida with their immigration crackdown is they couldn't fill the jobs that immigrants were doing so they started rolling back child labor laws. Now there are proposals that would let those jobs be done by children as young as 13.

I make about as much an hour as they do with overtime with tips on top on of that and I work for a medicore corporate food place lol.

I work 30 less hours a week to make about as much if not more much a week despite their 30 hours overtime pay.

7.25 is still the minority wage for Indiana. Now I live in an urban area where even fast food places are starting people at 13 an hour these days but I figure it's probably much worse down south. I guess it's because I live so close to IL that if they weren't competitive people would just work over there and live in IN.

Where I live every summer as a young teen we would detassel corn which is the most grueling work Ive had to do in my life. But a ton of us did it for a couple years. Work like hell for like 3 weeks to a month on a similar schedule. End up making around $1,500 to $2,000.

Was fucking hell but for a teenage kid in the late 80s and very early 90s that was a nice chunk of money that went a long ways for my lifestyle. I wouldnt do that job for $100 an hour now though. Fuckkkk that.

BTW, farm work is excluded from federal overtime pay requirements.

When I hired it was $10 when it was around $5. $15 when it was $10.

Understand this was picking up debris during pecan season, picking up pecans, grading pecans, cracking pecans, shelling pecans and then bagging pecans. 8 hours a day for 5 months, off weekends. I sold $8 dollars a #. On avg 20k # bagged a year. The costs include fuel, running machinery, electricity, bags and storage.

all contract work is exempt from overtime rules, and anything can be classified as "contract" labor easily. some jobs may have to "fire" you once a year on paper or something (but they dont really fire you, it's to shirk the law)
