I've only purchased one, but haven't received it yet. I pre-ordered Shantae: Risky's Revolution for GBA in February 2024. It was originally shipping Oct 2024, then Jan 2025, now April 2025. I think it's going to get delayed again. I've heard lots of complaints about them even before I pre-ordered this, but I really wanted the previously unreleased Shantae GBA game. I didn't bother with a 'special edition' or any of that. While I could still complain about LRG, I think this is mostly on the developers because if it was done we likely would've seen it released on other platforms already.

if you're going to buy anything from them, it's best to forget about it immediately after buying it, so if it does eventually show up 2 or 3 years later, it'll be a nice little treat

I just got Freedom Planet for switch. Bought it from Best Buy back when they used to sell LRG stuff

No, and you shouldn't. Limited Run Games is notoriously cheap. Their discs are burned not stamped which significantly limits their lifespan.

the only time they used a burned disc was for the 3do version of plumbers don't wear ties, and they've since gone to pressing them like they should have from the beginning

I feel like I hadn't heard any specifically shady things about them before this topic, but their whole business model always seemed kind of sleazy to me, like taking advantage of people's misplaced nostalgia. Creating "collector's items" that were meant to be collector's items from the start kinda defeats the purpose IMO. I'm not all-in on digital but I just don't see why I'd need a disc of some indie game. It's sort of cool that they do repros of some older cartridge games, but that's not the same as owning a real original cart. I guess it's slightly better than buying a random repro off ebay since some of the money probably goes to original devs.

I bought Oddworld: New & Tasty for Vita. I wanted to get Shantae, but I never knew when it was going to go live so I wound up missing it.

I definitely think some of their products are cool but I generally agree. Most of them are not desireable to me.

Calling them sleazy was probably a bit of a strong word on my part, but I think I found the words now. To me, they come off like they're pretty consumerist under the guise of being preservationist. Like you have easily been able to download ROMs of Shantae off the internet for years so this product doesn't really help much with availability - but at the same time, pretty much everyone buying one knows this, so there isn't much harm in making something for folks who just want to have a copy on their shelf or whatever

As for me, the only games anymore I really buy physical are some Nintendo releases, because I trust them the least to keep digital stores alive, and also cause they tend to make stuff I'm more likely to replay than other new games. If it ever gets to a point where they go fully digital I guess something like LRG would have a use to me, though I would suspect Nintendo wouldn't let them release stuff anyway

Guts and goals. I'd love to buy more from them, but they keep doing projects I have absolutely no interest in.

There are worthy indie games that deserve a physical version but I keep seeing stuff about the Dreamcast and one-offs I thought everyone already forgot about. Meanwhile you have worthy indies like '7 days to die' that are unique (to consoles) and would be perfect for Limited run to take a stab at (pun intended).

i bought the house in fata morgana dreams of the revenants back in 2019. was a pretty poor experience even back then; ghosted emails asking about shipping dates, and some of the extra items were not as advertised (they advertised a full set of CD cases for the soundtrack and it was just a thin jewel case). also some people said the included art book was noticeably lower quality than the identical one the developers had sold in japan

at least back then it was a legit cool thing to have an official physical copy of since it was fairly niche, now it seems like they do a ton of major titles too
