There are actually some sects of Christianity (generally the most gnostic ones) that consider Judas to be Jesus' most loyal Disciple of all. Basically, the line of thinking is that Jesus needed to be sacrificed to fulfill his purpose, so it was necessary for one of his followers to rat him out to the Romans.

So Jesus basically told Judas to do it. They deliberately kept it secret from the other Disciples, which is why he was demonized for it afterward. But Jesus picked him specifically because he was the only one he trusted to actually do the job (especially since he knew Peter would have wussed out, while someone like Thomas probably would have asked too many questions or balked at the sheer amount of faith needed).

There are also some interpretations that Judas didn't betray him simply for money, but because he was trying to put Jesus in a position where he would need to fight back against the Romans. ie, since Jesus was the rightful king via line of descent from David, so he could lead the Jews to rebel against Rome. In that scenario, Judas was as horrified as the rest (if not more so) when Jesus went quietly.

Regardless of his actual motives, the fact that history is written by the survivors and everyone had a vested interested in vilifying him rather than actually understanding his true motives means you can't really trust any version of the story you've heard.

I Googled whether or not Jesus smoked weed, and I came across an actual preacher delivering a sermon about how Jesus must have smoked weed.

I don't think I ever actually bothered to watch. I just laughed my ass off at the idea of a preacher saying this.

Technically untrue, since the entire premise is that Jesus died to save you from Original Sin, which you inherited from Adam and Eve. You were literally born destined for Hell no matter how you lived your life, until Jesus redeemed you.

The problem with most religious discussions (especially online) is that the average person's knowledge of their own self-proclaimed religion (or the religion they're trying to dunk on) stems from a weak understanding of things they barely remember learning in 2nd grade Sunday School. With most of the deeper nuances and actual cosmology of the theology way more complex. And that's before you even get into things like comparative theology or historical context.

Why do you care what other people do? Your religion only affects what you do. Not what everyone else does.

You're talking about a species that gets mad when other people don't drink the same soda or like the same TV shows as they do.

Humans do pretty much nothing BUT judge other people for what they do/say/believe.

The point remains that bible thumpers need to learn to mind their own goddamn business and quit acting like they get to lord over the rest of us. If other religions can manage to mind their business, so can they.

We tell them not to write discrimination and anti education policies into law and schools, but they don't listen or care.
