85 average so far. Game is apparently DAUNTINGLY huge.

Super hyped for this. I didn't cover it at work but one of my close friends did. Doesn't look like her review is on OC's list yet, although I reckon it will be before long. She gave it a 7 (well, a 3.5/5, which arguably reads a bit differently). But she liked it a good deal overall.

Not refreshed on every page yet, but has actually jumped to an 88. If that holds this would make it the highest rated game from either Kodaka or Uchikoshi.

Honestly my assumption from day one was that the actual gameplay part of this was going to be underwhelming and something to be tolerated, especially given how deep I've entrenched myself in the genre recently. There was promise there I'm the demo, but didn't know if it would pan out. If this is actually a game that's engaging to PLAY, not just experience, I will be through the moon.

I really have no fucking idea how this game can have one hundred endings that almost all feel like true, full endingd, but that's what I'm reading.

When Nier had 26 endings, a vast majority were just one minute or less jokes.

Also really happy to see that critics seem to be seeing an equal amount of bother lead creators here, despite the aesthetic being so Kodaka forward.

I am really surprised this is reviewing so well, but yay! I'm still not a fan of the Dangan artstyle but I can deal with that for great gameplay+story.

One of the things I saw in some reviews was people saying the story was great and the combat is great, but there's stuff between combat and story where you do crafting and run around or whatever (like the monastery in Three Houses or the Somniel in Engage I guess?) that's pretty bad.

Yeah that part was in the demo, definitely what I'm looking forward to the least.

I hadn't even heard of this game before today, but I love me a good sRPG and the positive reviews have me interested. Never played a Danganronpa, though, and I don't really dig the art style / character designs at a first glance. I guess I could overlook that if everything else is good.

Coming to PC and Switch apparently? How's Switch performance? I played Unicorn Overlord there and it was fine, but Rain Code sucked, so...

Switch demo only came out a week ago, waaaaay after the Steam demo, which definitely has me paranoid. Haven't downloaded it myself, since the demo has full game progress I'm just sticking with PC.

Rain Code was definitely a disaster on Switch. Might be one of the worst performance gaps between Switch and other consoles to date.

A quick purusing indicates 30 FPS on Switch as well as much longer load times. Seems better than Rain Code performance wise, but load times were Rain Code Switch's biggest problem.

Just one more point and we tie Blue Prince for bear reviewed game of the year so far.

Of course Blue Prince has dropped 2 points since that topic was made so it's not true anymore....

85 is the old score from when reviews went live this morning, Open Critic isn't always up to date on every page. Currently sitting at an 88.

Don't know why they haven't gotten that figured out yet, it's been a problem for ages.

Actually making me question my plans since I was gonna do this first then Expedition 33, but if this is hundreds of hours and that is, like, supposedly 30ish from what the devs have said....

Was amazed I was able to pick this up on Fantasycritic uncontested. I remember there was a demo/trial topic on here and everyone spoke favorably about it. Then I checked reviews and they were all super positive but nobody claimed it that week. So I snagged it the following week uncontested.

Hell yeah Cullens review

Truly a landmark example of needing to read the reviews rather than look at an aggregate, despite the positive reception and high score so far. Currently the lowest review for the game, a 6.5, openly admits to going into it expecting it to be bad and starting to skip dialogue and full cutscenes from just a few hours in.

You probably could get a great and concise game out of everything here, but I think the raw self-indulgence is an equally powerful artistic statement.

Apparently when doing new routes to reach alternate endings, if any content in that route is the same as another route, you can just skip right over it.

Doesn't help that Expedition 33 is also downloading in the background.

....Even the message about continuing using the Demo save data has me questioning the way it's emphasizing.....

Day 19, a nice round number. Time to crash! I stayed on the screen after that last battle for like 3 minutes deciding.

The degree to which the combat instantly becomes ten times more engaging as soon as you can start unlocking more skills and passives is astounding. It's like the first 3 weeks are just tutorial.

As soon as the physical training subplot for Shouma kicked in, I knew EXACTLY what reference they were going to make to reveal him on the other end of it lol.

It's alright so far. Feels more like Princess Maker 2 than Danganronpa, and I'm getting no Nonary Game vibes at all. Battles are the most fun part, and I wish hanging out at school felt a bit more worthwhile. Chatting with characters feels super dull, and I'm not even talking about the time-using ones. I rarely fast travel in games like these, but it's all I've been doing.

Your characters dying. The more characters die by the end of a fight, the better score wise. Obviously during the exploration map stuff you wanna keep people alive, but as you get into later waves of the story battles those sacrifice attacks are killer.

If someone dies during the exploration, are they actually dead for real, and it affects the story? Because I remember the demo not following through on that.

No, they just retreat. Considering how often I've had characters die from random map damage that would be pretty catastrophic lol.

Now, "what effects the story", no clue. Not for NOW, at least, since I know you're first route is locked in, but after that I can't even begin to imagine what aspects of the game will effect the pathing to the other 99 routes.

I see no reason to use a guide for anything other than the gifts, at least initially. I do have that if you want it, but you'll have to carefully avoid any potential character spoilers in the table of contents. I keep it open in a tab so I can avoid ever seeing the top of the page.

This is the first time I've heard of this game, but I'm watching a Noisy Pixel video that says the script is equivalent to three Danganronpa games...gawddayum, that's a lot of writing.
