These appear to be price adjustments coming later in the year or just now recommended to retailers, but it looks like the Series S price hasn't gone up yet on Amazon

I was debating finally upgrading my Series S. That's not gonna happen anymore.

I basically only buy games on sale anymore, but I guess its good I blew the money I did to buy all the games I did during their spring sale last week.

MS already increased system prices in 2023, outside US, before switch 2 was announced. The big US purchase base probably held it off until now.

For games it was coming with or without nintendo.

I think current gen console sales have peaked and instead of price cuts to get hold outs. Sony and MS have decided to raise prices that penalizes those coming in later. So now they are making a trend that it doesn't save to be coming in later.

It's the investors who reject sustainable profits to demand infinite growth who are ultimately at fault. They see Fortnite and Genshin making billions and think every game can and should do that.

If we aren't already, I wouldn't be surprised to see a spike in piracy trending after this year wraps up.

There likely won't be, not a major one anyway. Corpos -want- subscription gaming to become the norm and the golden bullet is raising prices until the standard game purchase/use model collapses.

Good thing I have a lot of games in my backlog.

Im actually wondering if the rubber will meet the road there, but less for gaming.

Theres an entire suite of services you can self-host ending in arr, that can do as little as renaming and reorganizing the media you ripped or as much as connecting to a VPN and using either a torrent client or a Usenet client to download all the media you could ever want before renaming and reorganizing it before continuously monitoring for higher quality versions and replacing the download with those (if you configure them that way, of course). Its like one day of pain in the ass setup and you just have a box that does all your pirating for you.

Im actually curious if people will get pissed off enough that theyll take the time to learn to set that up, kind of like how that famous old anti-piracy commercial caused a massive jump in piracy through the Streisand Effect as it informed a lot of people piracy was even a thing.

Sony already did this to the PS5 Digital, at least.

Modern systems seem like such a money pit. I get that some people want certain things, but I never have a problem just waiting until stuff is released for Steam. I have also been very unimpressed by the game library for recent systems. Im not trying to boycott them and wait for lower prices (I know thats not going to happen), but it doesnt fit into my budget. You dont even need a super expensive computer to play stuff on Steam.

I guess the consoles are better suited for people who play online competition games like Madden and Call of Duty, but I usually keep it to RPGs these days.

Now the games, controllers, and subscriptions are so expensive that you have to look at it as an investment. Paying for online would make me feel like I needed to sit down and get my moneys worth, when Im actually trying to avoid spending all day and night playing games. So I can see the appeal for certain people, but Im honestly surprised that the demand is still so high.

Yeah....every game I want has got to fight for my money now. Although I only buy 1-3 full price games a year as it is.

Jokes on Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. I also have a backlog from Sonic Frontiers and the way to Final Fantasy Tactics on the PS1 to keep me busy instead on buying new consoles.

Serious, though, this most likely won't only be problematic for gaming. It could very well branch into other areas of our lives. Greed, ignorance, and power through corruption tends to do that.

Anyone remember the N64 era when the price of cartridges were higher than other media options? It's like that across the board now.

Probably time I start going through my backlog anyways lol.

I expect Gamepass will go up again by the end of this year though.

I am SO glad I evolved into a PC gamer. Microsoft can go screw themselves.

Microsoft isn't exactly Nintendo, people are gonna go from barely buying their shit to begin with to not buying it at all.

Fuck Microsoft.

Games aren't worth $80+ with tax, no game is especially when most have microtransactions and overpriced season passes.

Include any future content outside of skins,then it's worth it or any future content is heavily decreased in price.
