When you think about it, humanoid robots with lazer pistols is a wildly inefficient way to do anything, only a human would dream up something like that.

The one that gets me is the 1984/brave new world comparison. When people talk about dystopian opression, they imagine big brother watching us while we're not allowed to consume content. But Huxley was right: the real oppression is the inability to mobilise because everyone is so comfortable or the inability to know fiction from reality because the airways are flooded with shit.

The vast majority of people actually do prefer human connection. That's natural. That's science. A facsimile is never going to be able to replace that.

These few that don't aee essentially taking a dopamine drug that will give them happy feelings but its not going to fill the void that causes them to seek this out anyways. Relationships are hard for a reason, but what you get out of it is beneficial and not just based on sexual gratification.

The real thing is going to be the only thing that will meet their needs for the majority of people. And until those folks learn to adapt to a world that doesn't always give them what they want then its probably better off they're removed from the gene pool by their not entering real relationships.

There are people who will do anything to be different, have fast answers, or even give the illusion of friendship. Even if the tech gives bad advice, they can fool themselves into it.

Do you live in the same world? People struggle to escape the human condition every hour of the day. They do anything they can to numb their minds, they hang around people that don't challenge them in any capacity and tend to very closely mimic their views, and "interaction" is largely just discussing whatever is popular or problems at work or family. AI very easily replaces that with no mess for a ton of people.

Every major technological advancement has pushed people into increasingly distant and constant forms of communication. Having your friend and lover living in your pocket isn't a stretch by any means.

AI and sex robots are not going to meet a human need for human interaction. It's an ersatz version that, in the end, only serves to highlight what the person is missing.

But this story seems to be more about weirdos using AI as some kind of spiritual/life guide thing. Like they do with cults, religion, shamanism, and drugs.
