You haven't played G Generation before? Great series. I started with G Generation Wars on PS2 back in 2009. The series started back in the 90s just like SRW. Doesn't really feel fair to call it a Temu SRW lol.

The presentation is lacking a lot in multiple ways and not just in terms of missing character themes and other themes. Things like intro, outro, defend animations etc in battle. They did add new attack animations and stuff at least though. But this game is downsized in presentation even more than the PSP games. But it shouldn't be surprising considering this is a mobile game. If I want to experience the full presentation I would play G Generation Wars, Genesis, Cross Rays etc. The pilot cutins in those games are better too and you can see the cockpits.

Honestly the thing that irks me the most besides the lack of theme songs is that theres no way to just turn off the animations altogether <_<

It was a standard option in the main games too IIRC

I've been really enjoying it. Playing G Generation Cross Rays on my Switch and both feel pretty similar, minus the limitations of a mobile game (logins, daily energy, etc). But even those limitations are pretty damn tame compared to most mobile games these days.

For people who have played the previous G Generation games, whats the point?

I cant imagine a mobile version would be any better than the dedicated console/pc versions we got before.

They combine UC and beyond in this game with modern features, rather than splitting them up between games. Plus all the new series like Witch from Mercury and Quuuu- whatever it's called are here.

I suppose that's neat, but I guess that means there aren't going to be mainline console/pc games going forward.

I like the portability. Although I also have Overworld on my phone, but I kinda lost interest in that. The visuals are also nice, but I still really wish they would give an option to toggle the animations :<

I guess the issue I have is that I've played all these scenarios before already so I'm having a hard time seeing the point aside from being able to make a dream team from UC + Non UC. I'm still working through the tutorial so I'm not terribly optimistic until I see how the monetization occurs.

Well good news! The monetization is ass :D

Theres no permanent pass, no monthly pass, no battle pass, and in general buying diamonds is a really bad deal. This is the one game where I have absolutely no temptation to buy anything because the packs have such terrible value lol.

I just rerolled (very quick and easy BTW) until I got a good start, and stuck with that.

I just finished the tutorial and unsurprisingly it's another gacha. I'm not sure why I thought it wouldn't be. I can see them milking whales for this.

Personally, the idea of playing a gacha-version of a game series which normally gives you all the units just sounded so incredibly pointless that I didn't see any particular reason why they would release it.

Like all the missions so far are literally lifted from previous games so it's not like they're adding any new content aside from the new shows.

I guess the game is intended for people who haven't played the previous titles.

I guess the cardinal difference between the SD Generation games and the examples you've given is that whole point of the SD Generation games is to mash together all your favorite units from all the different shows and the previous titles let you do exactly that.

This new title is functionally the same as the previous games in the series, except they removed giving you access to the units within the game and replacing it with gacha.

That is a fair point. They're obviously just jumping on the gacha bandwagon in hopes of raking in some whale cash.

Eternal at least has new animations for returning units from Genesis and Cross Rays. Of course there are reused animations too.

I will admit that I played through the entirety of both games with animations skipped, otherwise the game takes forever.

I played through a few hours of Generations before my dumb ass figured out you could turn them off. I'll admit it's entertaining watching them a first few times, but when you're slogging through a map with like fifty enemy units you don't really want to watch the same animation over and over.

Yeah I skip when I'm playing on a long stage. Not necessarily all the time but a lot of the time. Same with SRW.
