I made an oopsie and let my toe nails grow way too long. At some point, this caused the nail on my pinky toe to sheer, not the part growing out, but the part attached to the toe meat itself. But there's a tiny little end that's still attached. It's not the whole nail, but like, halfway down. So the base is still there, but halfway up the toe meat part it's basically exposed.

So basically, I'm living life with half my little toe nail ALMOST completely broken off. But it's still hanging on. At rest, it actually doesn't hurt at all. It's fine.

The problem, is every time I knock it on something, pain shoots through me as that little joint is shocked. It doesn't take much. Walking with shoes on, and it pressed up against other toe. A blanket brushing over it. Accidentally hitting carpet with it. Putting on a sock or pajamas.

I could leave it like that.

Live with it until it naturally grows out and falls off.

Or, I could rip the rest of the nail off at that little tiny part still attached, which would be wildly painful.

Rip it off.

I had to hold my wife down and do it in one fell swoop. Its a lot better than snagging that shit on your socks or shoes for weeks.

Sanitize it afterwards and wrap it tightly.

I could just try to like, clip it down more. So the hanging part over the toe meat is clipped off, but then that connected part is still there, probably leaving behind a sharp little nail corner.

I feel like I've typed toe meat enough to last a lifetime.

Leave it alone, that there is the Little Toenail that Could.

you could rip it off.. But apply some gauze initially for a few days

Get some hydrogen peroxide and some neosporin and a bandage. If you can pull it off easily with your fingers then it's ready to go.

Clip it all the way down as much as possible. See how that works. If it's still too painful, then try to remove the whole thing. But if you rip it off, you might make it worse, so save that for the last resort.

OP if you're diabetic or have any immune deficiencies please reconsider doing anything but going to a doctor for this

So he can pay $300 for a simple home fix? Nu uh. Have the hydrogen peroxide on deck, rip it off, and bandage it immediately.

Honestly, ripping it off doesn't even hurt. Feels gross, but not actively painful
