Turning down the road to my house, I don't see the cow grazing on the shoulder until the last second. Luckily the topic title is a little clickbaity. I was already slowing down to turn and slammed on brakes, so I just slapped it on the ass basically. Heard some grinding noises, but my car's a piece of shit and the front end wasn't amazing already, so it could have just been the cow pulling at it.

If I'd been going full speed, I'd have probably totaled my car and killed it (if not myself). As it is, it just ran off.

Not an uncommon thing where I live in a HEAVY farm state in the Midwest. Deer are the most common thing hit but yeah you definitely have incidents from cows, pigs, geese/ducks/chickens and also dogs and cats from farms as well.

There's not a huge dairy/beef farm or anything near, but someone does keep a few livestock. I drive past it on the way to work. I'm assuming it belongs to them, but I wasn't about to do a U-turn and knock on a stranger's door at 9:30 at night to ask if they were missing a cow <_<
