I genuinely don't understand why Bluey is so popular, or why people act like it's on par with Breaking Bad or The Sopranos.

Is the bar for preschool cartoons really so low that anything even above average is considered a masterpiece?

i think its just a combination of small things + word of mouth causing people to go into it ready to perpetuate its reputation as long as they like it

i saw a couple eps. its literally just a show for babies, so i dont get it. it can cover some things that are novel for that kind of show, but it is very clearly a show for babies, so i really dont understand the childless adults who watch it on their own

Generally, yes. That's why when you see a preschool show that actually gives a shit and strives for quality, it's special. Which is what Bluey does.

It's not in the same category as Breaking Bad and The Sopranos. It's not trying to do the same things. It would be nonsense if it did.

Bluey aims to be a smart, relatable, funny, often low key show about the little ups and downs of family life, enjoyable for all ages. And it succeeds magnificently at being just that. It fully deserves its high reputation.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Bluey. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Bluey's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Bluey truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Bluey's existential catchphrase "Oh biscuits!" which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as whoever the fuck is Bluey's creator's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.

And yes, by the way, i DO have a Bluey's tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

Its definitely higher quality than most TV for that age group

but yeah I dont understand the adult fandom of it. Especially as said the childless adults since so much of the humor for adults is about being a parent

anyway theres probably a marketing aspect to it too because its not like there arent other great kids shows out there right now. They just dont have the marketable characters. Things like Trash Truck and Stillwater come to mind

idk, it's wholesome and genuinely smart and funny for both kids and adults. It it's not edutainment or anything, but it does deal with some pretty heavy subject matter every now and then, though it treats children with respect and does it without infantalising or talking down to them. Yeah, the bar is low, with all the rapid-fire, colour flashing, literally development-stunting slop, but Bluey is a high quality programme regardless.

It's actually really damn good for a kids show, and adults can enjoy it too. Like some have said elsewhere, it probably helps that the parents are super supportive and also teach lessons. Which is actually unlike a lot of childhoods where one was absent or just toxic. This is partially where the older audience likes it, plus it draws those in the furry fandom for all ages lol.

Though I do feel it fucking exploded a bit... Bluey marketing department is making bank. I can't deny having a box of Bluey cereal in there because I was curious. It's basically just kix.

The cynical in me surmises that Its a comfort show for adults with unresolved trauma that they are not willing to confront to find respite in.

The optimist says its a well made show that has wide appeal and is enjoyable to watch with little commitment.

I've seen the obvious stuff such as toys, pillows, blankets, posters, books... but they have cereal, workout sweat bands with ears, kiwi's with bluey on them. Diapers, healthcare stuff.

It's a bit amusing at how rapidly it popped off.

Oh, I also have a shirt with Chili and Bandit dancing on it saying "This was the 80's, man."
I'm disappointed the actual shirt doesn't fully match the display image as the display pic included small text at the bottom "There was no helmets, it was a wild place." It was supposed to be on the shirt image, but kinda diminished it without.

Oh yeah the beans actually make a hell of a lot of sense. I forgot that in one of the episodes they're acting like old ladies and obsessed with a can of baked beans. In the christmas episode, one of them gets a can of baked beans.

Oh and because my cousin and his family watch it, his daughter got a can of baked beans for christmas.

I heard rave reviews about it so I decided to load it up with my daughter and I was disappointed at things like name-calling that didn't really support the story at all.

I hate that so many childrens shows, even G rated ones, feature unnecessary violence and shit.

So to TC, it actually is hard to find proper developmentally constructive shows for younger kids. There are some good programs out there but they're spread out

Haven't seen it, but from what I heard, its as some of the other people here are saying.

Its a show written for kids by people who don't just think a small child is a lower life form that only wants to look at shiny things (read: most people who try to write things for preschoolers because they think young kids are too dumb to follow anything that lasts longer than dangling keys in front of them). Such that it is well written for a young kids' show, to the point where it can also be enjoyable or at least watchable to older kids and adults who enjoy cartoons.
