Question for super-fans: is there a stated reason as to why Toecutter's eyes bulge out of his skull the moment before the truck splatters him? No denying it makes for a cool shot, I'm just wondering if there's supposed to be a reason behind it.

Yeah, it's fine. It definitely doesn't feel like the rest of the films. It's good if you watch it as a low budget indie film that was filmed borderline guerilla style, and not having the crazy lore or action of the later ones.

I couldn't make it through Mad Max. Bad pacing. I liked The Road Warrior

Its not bad, it's not great. It's a very different type of movie because society hasn't fully collapsed yet.

I like how some of the characters in the original were clear previews of the insane cultism that would rise in the post-apocalypse as the series went forward. That nut in the intro scene who's so off-his-rocker proud that the local biker gang leader knows his name? That's the original War Boy right there.

I hate everything about that universe. Its like an edgy Metal fan middle schoolers wet dream.

It's a more realistic vision of society on the edge of collapse, with cool cars and great chase sequences.

I think it's pretty good.

Not in the first film.

There's a police force, civic government, utilities, etc. It's very different from the sequels.

I loved furiosa and wanted to watch the older stuff. It hasn't aged well at all.

Yes.

I like it as a proof-of-concept for the great movies that followed. But if I need a Mad Max fix it would one of those others I'd put on.

It's important for introducing the universe, but every other movie in the series is infinitely better

I liked it. Of course it's not like the rest, but it was still fine. It's kind of neat seeing how things were before they went to complete chaos. We see society and order slowly eroding.

The opening chase with The Night Rider are still pretty cool for a B movie.

I never watched it. Not my style of movie. I tend to greatly dislike post apocalyptic stuff unless it is done in a certain way. This applies to movies and games. When I was young Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome were popular and I thought those were bad movies so I imagine I wouldn't care for it at all.

The first film isn't post-apocalyptic. It's a society where law and order is under huge pressure and on the edge of breaking down.

But they still have a police force, government, utilities, shops, restaurants, regular jobs, transport network, etc, as we would recognise them. There hasn't been any apocalyptic event.

It's about the struggles of law enforcement in an increasingly lawless environment. And then switches to revenge tragedy for the final reel.
