With a composite linescore of 43-4 that was likely one of the most dominant 6 game stretches in mlb history Commentary said it was something that's never happened before, but I think there were some qualifiers. I'm not sure if it was 6 games, or specifically two series. Also, I think it was only looking at four (or fewer?) runs allowed. Clayton Kershaw's 3000th strikeout a few days ago was noteworthy for a few reasons. First, he is just the 20th player in Major League Baseball history (which dates to 1876) to accomplish the feat. Second, he's just the 4th southpaw (after Steve Carlton, Randy Johnson, and CC Sabathia) to do so. Third, he's only the third player (after Walter Johnson and Bob Gibson) to do so in the service of a single team. It's a singularly distinguished accomplishment that helps reaffirm what's been a surefire path to Cooperstown for at least 8 seasons. For all of his well documented individual struggles in the postseason, his career numbers partway through his 18th season are the stuff of legend: 3000 strikeouts (and counting), a career winning percentage of .697 (216 wins versus 94 losses), 3 Cy Young Awards, a Triple Crown Season where he was also NL MVP, and so forth and so on. He's part of a generation with two other future Hall of Famers (Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer, both of whom are well over 3000 Ks, among other renowned milestones) and there will probably always be some debate about which one was the best of them. I grew up watching Greg Maddux, Randy Johnson, and Pedro Martinez eviscerate batter after batter after batter in their unique styles so it's kind of neat that my generation would also produce a trio of inextricably linked legends whose accomplishments are inspiration to those that have come after them. Makes me excited to see what things the bright young arms of today (Skenes, Greene, Crochet, etc) will accomplish after in their careers. --- https://i.imgur.com/RPUuSll.gifv ... Copied to Clipboard!

El_Marsh posted... Third, he's only the third player (after Walter Johnson and Bob Gibson) to do so in the service of a single team.A clarification here - he's the 3rd to do it while playing for only 1 team in his career. Steve Carlton and John Smoltz also topped 3k strikeouts with the Phillies and Braves respectively, but played for other teams. Smoltz was the 3rd pitcher to hit 3k Ks while playing for just 1 Major League team, but he then pitched for the Red Sox in 2009 (and then the Cardinals). It's possible, but probably unlikely, the same could happen with Kershaw if the Dodgers think he's done but Kershaw doesn't want to hang it up. Depends on how much Kershaw would want to keep pitching vs. how much the Dodgers would pay him for a front office job (even just a token one) to keep him from pitching for another team. Carlton pitched 7 seasons for the Cardinals before being traded to the Phillies, then bounced around a few teams after the Phillies let him go. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Royals take 2 of 3 from Arizona. Pretty exceptional start by Michael Lorenzen today, only allowing 3 baserunners over 7 innings against a D-Backs team that scores a fair number of runs (4th in MLB, to be specific). Bobby Witt Jr and Kris Bubic appear to be the Royals' only all-star participants this year, though I feel Carlos Estevez, Seth Lugo, and Maikel Garcia are also worthy of consideration. It's hard to justify too many players from a middling team. --- https://i.imgur.com/RPUuSll.gifv ... Copied to Clipboard!
