I saw something last night that I just cannot get out of my head. Some of you may have seen it, but I refuse to link it here.

I'm referring to a post making the rounds on Twitter, wherein a young trans woman committed suicide. Her last posts, not long before doing the deed, started spreading out a lot over the site, and I unfortunately made the severe mistake of looking at the comments on the post.

While many were supportive, too many more were just mocking the poor woman or prompting Twitter's stupid AI bullshit to make dumbass AI meme images about the death or smugly blaming the left for causing it or whatever else. Just so many absolutely monstrous posts with tons of likes that were some of the most depraved shit that I've ever seen.

It's been a long time since just seeing some stupid Twitter responses has caused me any reaction, but I just immediately felt physically ill and had to stop myself from looking at more. Genuinely sick to my stomach and just intense feelings of sadness for the poor girl, pure anger at the jackasses who were just so damn gleeful over the situation, and just despair over the state of the world and how we got here.

To be that excited and making dumbass jokes about a girl's death like that is just well beyond what I'd consider even human. I sincerely do not understand how anyone could be that twisted and warped to the point where they're so happy about seeing a 17-year-old die like that, and it genuinely, sincerely wrecked a lot of my remaining faith in humanity that we're at that point.

Sorry for the miniature rant, but I can't get it out of my head. People are just...awful sometimes.

Our society and especially Elon Musk's Twitter is encouraging that sort of behavior. We're in a springtime of far-right scumbaggery.

Truly, you can see who tbe monsters are in the world when they have anonymity to protect them. And even now, on Twitter with their full name and picture on display, they just don't care. Everything is a cheap laugh to them

Sorry you're being affected this hard, and if you need to talk or vent I know there are multiple people here who would do so, myself included

It's too easy to not consider the humanity of others when they're not a physical presence in your life. Shit talking is a simple matter when all anyone can do back is type a reply; empathy is easy to dismiss as "woke" when you don't have to stand in front of the person you're bullying and see the effect your words have on someone in real time.

The bad edge of social media's double-edged sword is jagged and rusty.

I saw an absolutely disgusting Stonetoss comic about this on reddit. It was calling it out for being absolutely awful, but it's still hard to believe people enjoy cruelty like this. We are a very sick society.

Yes. That is literally it. Someone posted an RT of the girl's final tweets before she died to suicide, Stonetoss made a post and the rest is what you see.

Some may see this as hypocritical or even bad itself, but I don't see these right winger types as people. They've gleefully shed their humanity. They're orcs or goblins or some other type of fantasy creature that's full of hatred and cruelty.

Bigotry is throwing the first stone, if you violate the social contract because of who another person is, you lose the right to complain about other people shutting you down for what you do.

This is the culture that Elon Musk has cultivated on Twitter. 4chan except mainstream. The most vile people thrive, while decency dies a little more each day.

RIP to the trans woman. I can't tell you where anyone ends up after they die, but all those who tormented her and celebrated her death? They're going to feel awfully upset when she's not down there with them.
