For the first time ever, the state known for glaciers, dogsledding and northern lights issued a heat advisory, as temperatures in Fairbanks, its second largest city, were slated to top 86 degrees over the weekend. Its not the first time temperatures have climbed that high, but its the first time the state has ever put out such a warning about heat.

There's gonna be a tiny strip of habitable land/zone that the remaining humans, plant, and animal life live in.

it is honest-to-goodness depressing that you know people will use "Its not the first time temperatures have climbed that high" to argue climate change does not exist, or isn't important, or isn't that impactful, or wait no it's a good thing actually

Nah, all the rich are moving to Mars while the middle class and poor are left to die on a massively polluted Earth.

What's the weather like there usually? I've been thinking about moving there to avoid summer heat for a while now.

Well it's 55 today according to my weather app. Summer is usually warm but not too warm, from like may to mid August. Then it starts getting cold again

I believe the heat advisory warnings are just so people know how to keep cool and safe, most Alaskans probably don't have AC.

Long term effects of constant high temps could cause excessive thawing of permafrost which can be a very serious problem

I'm the one that lives in Fairbanks.

Also, this is as clickbait as it gets. It routinely gets that hot in the Summer here. The reason this is the first heat advisory ever is because we've never been setup to send those alerts. I believe it was late last year when they finally added the option.

Wildfire season did start a couple weeks early this year though, snowpack wasn't that great from Winter and we got some early Tstorms. My phone was blowing up last night, I was sitting in my truck ready to go for awhile.

Not quite, I can go up the Dalton or Steese and find snow still. Three weeks ago it dumped a foot of snow on the Dalton and they had to shut it down.

It has been a rough few years for the 40 mile herd that I hunt. Covid was the last great year where we were able to take any 2. I got a monster bull with a white pelt that year. Last few years it has been one Bull only and it typically closes by emergency order on the 2nd or 3rd day for the rifle hunt. So you gotta get your bou within the first couple days, which is honestly pretty easy, or go bow hunting up the Dalton a few weeks earlier.

I'm sorry, I was assuming I'm talking to a laymen who figures the mountains and peaks will always have snow. The area where the majority people live in Alaska do not typically have any snow from june to august.
