Cecil, Yuffie, and Seymour continue their march toward Emet-Selch, but one dark horse has seemingly pulled ahead of the herd. Is it too little, too late? Or can someone finally CHALLENGE Emet's early utter domination?

Meanwhile, there are just barely more characters left alive with one or two Mercuries to their names than those with three or more. Could that mean the faster you're saved the bigger the target gets placed on your back, or is it simply a matter of running out of steam?

There has not been much movement on the Quickdraw front in the last ten rounds. MartinFF7 joined the QD fray in his first fully participated in round upon his return, and Ulti beat the ping and the other rabid Seymour voters once, and that's been pretty much it aside from some shuffling at the top. th3l3fty and SaveEstelle made up a bit of ground, but PlasmaKappa is still far out of reach forever now. There's still just under 30 days left for any new blood to join the QD board *cough* kateee.

SMFFFCC Card Club Match 11

Opponent: Wakka
Region: Besaid
Rules: Closed, Plus, One

Quistis was long overdue for a beach vacation. Between her duties with Balamb Garden and her personal journey to spread Triple Triad, she hadn't had much time to just relax. She'd also heard about an interesting sport that they played in this region called blitzball, so she was hoping to catch a game while she was here.

It was a stroke of good fortune that Quistis happened to meet the captain of the Besaid Aurochs, Wakka. He was a jocular, easygoing fellow. He enjoyed meeting new people and showing them around the island.

To his credit, he was a pretty good tour guide, other than his tendency to want to make her swim for miles at a time. Quistis was a good swimmer, but she didn't swim enough to have that kind of endurance. Wakka, on the other hand, never seemed to get tired and could seemingly hold his breath underwater for forever. She'd never seen anything quite like it.

"So I hear you're interested in blitzball," Wakka said. "It'll take a lot of work to get you ready to play, but I can tell you've got talent, ya?"

"Play?" Quistis asked. "No, no, I don't want to play! I just want to watch a game. I've never seen it before."

"Never seen it before?!" Wakka sounded shocked. "I didn't think that was possible. I guess you weren't joking when you said you were from somewhere far away. What sport do you play for fun then?"

"Well, I wouldn't call it a sport exactly, but my personal favorite is a card game called Triple Triad," Quistis answered.

"Cards, huh? I'll make you a deal then. If you beat me in a game of cards, I'll get you the best seats in the house to our next game. If I beat you, then you have to play me in a game of blitzball," Wakka said.

"You're on," Quistis agreed. (Unless Wakka is bluffing, I shouldn't be in any danger of losing this bet.)

With that, the game commenced. Quistis had planned on mostly taking it easy during this trip, so she hadn't brought a full deck, but she still had enough ammunition with her to handle one game.

Sure enough, Quistis won fairly easily, even without her favorite trump card. Instead she finished off the match with the Seifer card. She didn't use this one often because it brought back some bittersweet memories, but there was no denying its usefulness.

Wakka let out a hearty laugh upon being defeated. "You got me good, ya? Don't worry. A deal's a deal. I'll honor my end of the bargain."

"Why make this bet if you knew you were going to lose?" Quistis asked.

"I don't care whether I win or lose. I just want to do my best and have fun. Plus, I wanted you to have some fun, too, so it's all good. I'll see you at the game, ya?"

"Ya--er, yes," Quistis stammered. "Thank you. I'm looking forward to it."

Fiop has saved Wakka every round just doesn't trade much

I think hubby meant moreso a main that trades at all. It's been kind of surreal that Wakka even made it this far with basically one guaranteed vote every round and two or three good will saves from the X crew/Wakka Fan Club/people who wanted to see other characters eliminated instead at the end, and his luck had to run out eventually. Sucks it happened against another character who's luck probably should've also run out since his fanbase was down a whole saver, but it is what it is.

She pulled her snowballs from places that are legal to think about, and began to throw as Wakka glided around with his measly one ball. She attempted to throw them but they didn't go anywhere because it was regular snow and it was underwater. Wakka did a stylish backflip and jettisoned his ball towards her, but she easily sidestepped it. Ritz realized she had a short window before he could get his ball back, and she did something she didn't think she'd have to do until a later snowball fight. But desperate times called for desperate measures, and she needed to beat Lance Armstro- I mean Wakka in this tense duel.

Sounds like Wakka could've won if he got his measly one ball and just shot like crazy

Looking at these STATS I find it super funny and kind of ironic that for a character famous for allegedly being able to hold his breath indefinitely outside of one middling run, his EVERY appearance is literally SINK OR SWIM

When is Wakka finally redeemed?

Outside of the first glorious run to 23rd it was never about redemption per se. It was about making up for past failures. You see, Wakka actually has a lot of legitimate fans. However the fans that Wakka has just so happen to have a lot of other priorities they tend to put over him, and he often gets left to the wayside because of it. He's just a terribly unlucky guy as opposed to a guy like Exdeath who has ONE die-hard fan and a few scattered supporters here and there who would support him if the cards lined up (and the rarely ever do) for a run.

Is that Squall double-sided?

Nah. The double sided generally have a transform condition in their effect text and a tiny stat block in the bottom right above the normal one. It's also generally only (fittingly) the bad guys that have them in this set. Fang and Vanille also have one I assume it's much like X-Death because the card designers follow smfffc.
