My eliminated Top 100

35 Ini Miney - I don't separate Mimi and Ini a lot since I assume Mimi is impersonating her sister quite accurately and, boy, I find her hilarious
57 Wocky Kitaki - Love the design and I don't mind the personality, his smile is cute
86 Duncan Ross - Love his whole thing with Olive
100 Bat - Really appealing design too, he's kind of a himbo

#195th: Judge of Labyrinthia

The Judge of Labyrinthia shares an appearance with the normal Judge. But they are not the same character. He's not quite as jovial. I wonder if they intended on having the normal judge for Labyrinthia, or if they just wanted a familiar face for PLvPW. He lets Birdly testify, and after the trials are over he becomes a singer and fortune teller.

Hes another Judge, hes fine - Paratroopa1

Ace Attorney works best when the judge is predetermined to be against you, then ends up being surprisingly flexible and competent. It works here for Labyrinthia and it also works in Khurain. - MrSmartGuy

Foxy is the female vigilante, and our highest ranked vigilante. She stands out a bit more than the others, and doesn't object alongside them. Her long hair, and unique armor, as well as her tattoo help her stand out as well. She enjoys degrading her fellow vigilantes.

Uhhh okay I guess were doing this - Paratroopa1

What appears to be a red herring joke in the third case, turns out to be a juror in the final case of GAA. And you have to wonder how this Russian got on a jury trial. Also it's hilarious he's pretty much doing what Sholmes said he was. He has some uses. But he's not the Top rated named or unnamed juror!

It is certainly not his role in GAA1-2 that has him this high on my personal list. And honestly, it's not his further roles in the game, either. It's the fact that he's brought back at all that makes him so funny to me. - MrSmartGuy

Its a short bit but its pretty funny honestly, way funnier than the other Jurors - Paratroopa1

#192nd: Bruce Fairplay (Great Ace Attorney Adventures)
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/c/cfeb4a44.jpg
Highest Rank: 79th
Lowest Rank: 262nd
Highest Percentile: 76.58%

A witness, and later a juror. Bruce Fairplay lives by his name. As a juror, he's quite fair despite having every reason to despise Ryunosuke. He's also very Australian. Imagine being a lawyer in a case, and then having a witness, who becomes a juror in the next case. Or vice versa, really. Would have liked to see him out of the courtroom.

The juror turned head juror. It's not the worst dynamic, I guess, and he really does seem to grow a little between appearances. - MrSmartGuy
(I think he meant Witness)

Surprisingly kind of entertaining, I like that you have to slander this guy even though he didnt really do anything wrong - Paratroopa1

#191st: Quercus Alba (Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth)

Highest Rank: 47th

Ambassador of Allebahst and former Cohdopian ambassador to the United States. Also the head of the Smuggling Ring. For some reason I just want to call him Pinocchio. He looks like he's made of wood (Thus the name I guess) and look at the nose! Look at it. Alba can be a somewhat annoying witness. And whether you like that or not probably determines whether you like him or not. He has his fair share of fans with someone ranking him in their top 50. But he also has detractors.

I mean, you cant say you dont hate this guy, isnt that what being a villain is about? Dont you feel despair when he refuses to let the case end? - paratroopa1

EXTRATERRITORIAL RIGHTS - MrSmartGuy

I almost admire the guy's unwillingness to give up, except that all it amounts to is essentially a four year old saying "Nuh-uh." What should have been a satisfying end, was simply a moment of relief it was finally all over. - Runemistress

I don't think "hate" is the right word for DD's twist. I don't "hate" it, I feel basically nothing about it. They're effectively not a real character. It's not very interesting. I guess that puts them below Alba.

Helmut is Bodhidharma Kanis pet dog. And he can be just as ferocious as his owner. He doesn't like Edgeworth very much, and chases away Eddie Fender and Kay Faraday. As of AAI2 he's around 18 years old, which is rather old for a dog. Though some have been known to live that long.

Dog, not as cute, sorry - Paratroopa1

The guy who can't tell the difference between a baseball glove and bananas. To be fair, he wasn't wearing his glasses. That's what a lot of people will remember from this case. He's the only tutorial culprit who has never reappeared. Make it happen AA7. Or just make AA7 happen tbqh. Or GAA3. I'm not picky.

Nothing you can say will stop me from loving this ridiculous idiot, sorry - Paratroopa1

Creator of Labyrinthia. All to help his daughter get over her trauma. If only he paid a bit more attention to what was going on! Seriously. He seems like a loving father who takes things too far, but then also doesn't keep track of what's happening. He also has a whole owl motif going on. He's Espella Cantabella's father if that weren't obvious by his name.

Geiru Toneido's dog. I almost forgot she had a dog. But it's actually kind of important to the case. He eats some of the evidence. I don't think we ever get to meet Jugemu. Which is kind of a shame. Anyway, basically cute dog so people like. Again, i don't think that's a bad thing.

#184th: Genshin Asogi (Great Ace Attorney Resolve)

Genshin Asogi is Kazuma Asogi's father. We never get to meet him, as he's already dead by the time the game starts. But he's still a central figure in the game. Genshin was framed as The Professor, and agreed as long as he got to return home to his son. Of course, that didn't happen when Enoch Drebber saw him return from his grave. Then instead of killing some inconsequential scientist student, they killed Genshin Asogi, who left behind Klint's will that revealed the secret of The Professor's True Identity. Genshin did kill Klint Van Zieks, but he did so in a duel because Klint was the professor. He was given a pretty raw deal. At least his son agrees to become an assassin to come to Britain to unfurl the truth. Even if it takes him a little longer than he expects.

Seems pretty cool, if I remember GAA2s complicated plot correctly - Paratroopa1

What an Impact he had on GAA2, amirite? - MrSmartGuy

#183rd: Nahyuta Sahdmadhi (Ace Attorney: Spirits of Justice)

Lowest Rank: 323rd
Highest Percentile: 89.93%
Lowest Percentile: .98%
Average Percentile: 41.64%
Number of lists: 21

Our first MAIN prosecutor is, to probably nobody's surprise, Nahyuta. Apollos third or fourth backstory friendship character from childhood. Most people just don't like him very much. He falls out of the Top 100 for all but three people. He's kind of a disappointing main prosecutor, more so because he had potential and is just kind of boring. A lot of his development feels unearned and sudden. Admittedly he does look kind of cool.

Nahyuta is SO bad. He's everything I hate about bad AA characters wrapped into a main antagonist. Physical abuse? Check. Actions that make no sense given their ulterior motives? Check. Completely bland and monotonous? Check. Why is he such an asshole constantly? I know he's doing the Garan regime's dirty work, but he's still played off as a good guy the whole time at the end, so why is he such an insufferable prick nonstop until then? He has two highlights, and both involve him proving he understands Japanifornia's customs in prank shows and rakugo storytelling. Every other time he's on screen, he sucks all the life out of the case, and it's so annoying. - MrSmartGuy

The great thing about being a prosecutor in this series is that even if you suck, you get a LOT of moments in the spotlight to build up a resume of moments amusing enough for me to keep you higher in the ranking. 6-4 does a lot of work for this guy. Also hes hot which helps - Paratroopa1

#182nd: Klint Van Zieks (Great Ace Attorney Resolve)

Barok Van Zeik's deceased brother. Also The Professor, though he was blackmailed into some of it. He's also Iris WIlson's father. We obviously never get to know him, but like Genshin, we do get some ideas about what kind of person he was. Barok clearly looked up to his brother. Making his turn to murder even more tragic. Extremely important as far as GAA goes, especially for a character we never meet.

When Barok starts talking about the monster behind the mask I knew it was gonna be this guy even when it initially wasnt this guy - Paratroopa1

This guy had real Luigi Mangione energy, and that's something I can appreciate. It's just that he got sucked into the Mael-strom of conspiracy, and that suuuuucks for him. - MrSmartGuy

Riddele Mystere is the librarian at Labyrinthia, and she keeps puzzles Layton and Wright don't solve. Her French name is better imo Amy Stere. Italian works as well Miss Terry. But I digress. Nahyuta's theme is really good and I like his catchphrase. His subtle court animations are nice too (the bead thing is a little weird though).

Put another way, I think the weirdness of Nahyuta's character "makes sense" in the Ace Attorney fiction, whereas Simon, from what I remember, is just strange. It's strange that he's a prisoner allowed to prosecute. It's strange that he's a samurai. It's strange that he speaks in an old fashioned dialect. I guess my dislike of the design is just personal taste, but I would've preferred a little more color in there.

Now I shall take Nahyuta's advice to "let it go, and move on."

P.S. I didn't rate him 7th though! I don't love him that much.

worse at prosecuting
I'll be honest, how good someone is at prosecuting has absolutely nothing to do with how much I like them as a character.

Imagine if we penalized Gumshoe for being a bad detective...

Godot is probably the worst non-Payne prosecutor in the series skills wise and everyone loves him.

I actually kinda do care if the prosecutor sucks but I dont think Godot is the worst or even second or third worst of the OT prosecutors in terms of seeming believable at being a good prosecutor

I mean a large appeal of the game is that you face off in challenging court battles vs a prosecutor who grills you on every little bit of logic and forces you to come to smart conclusions.

No similar appeal exists for, like, navigating around a detective who... gets in your way or whatever... I mean maybe a *bit* sure, but "detective" fills a very different role and if anything, them being incompetent and getting along with you works *better* since it facilitates an interesting investigation where you learn new things. A competent detective that pushed back on you as much as Edgeworth does as a prosecutor might actually be more disliked since it'd cause friction in the part of the gameplay where you don't want friction. Whereas in court, the friction is the point.

I mean you briefly get to work with a competent detective who's actually antagonistic to you twice with Badd in E1-4 and E2-3

Matt Engarde's pet cat that he asks Phoenix to take care of for him while he's in jail. Also gives away Maya's location when she's being held by deKiller. I'd like to think deKiller intended to kill the cat, but did not have the heart to do it, so now he has a cat. But more likely, Shoe is probably Matt's emotional support animal in the prison, because they all seem to have them. So alas, that's probably what happened to shoe.

I'm sorry, but I find Venus hilarious. (No, I'm not the one who ranked her 15th, though). She sells firecrackers to school kids, then goes and tells the teachers, who confiscate them and give them back to Venus, who sells them back to school kids. It's quite the grift. She's also a pathological liar, and the judge forces you to buy firecrackers from her. I just think she's really funny. Also the twist with the firecrackers as a time bomb is brilliant because we're introduced to the concept the chapter earlier. And it feels so natural, not forced. Might be slightly better if we met Venus beforehand.

She's very talented, to be able to light firecrackers on her ass.- MrSmartGuy

A somewhat creepy old man, but not as creepy as most of the other creeps. Yes, he creeps on Mia, but he refuses to creep on Maya. So kudos (haha) to him for that. He tries his best to be helpful, and he ultimately helps solve the case with a tidbit of information. He also likes to throw rice at people. He's kind of a funny character, much less harmful than Hotti. Also he gets a pretty happy ending with his grandkids celebrating his birthday.

Underrated, I like how he was legitimately a witness to an extremely confusing crime and everyone just blows him off because hes old, genuinely worth feeling sorry for - Paratroopa1

I used to really dislike Victor Kudo as a gimmicked old pervert character, but upon replays, I realize he's actually one of the more nuanced witnesses of the original trilogy. He had a lot of pride doing something he loved as an occupation, but it no longer serving any real purpose to an evolving society has left him feeling depressed, and the only thing that gives his life meaning any more is being served coffee by a nice waitress. Now that he's a witness, he just really wants to be helpful to someone again. That's a lot more detail than most of the witnesses in these games get, and I have a lot more appreciation for him as a character now. - MrSmartGuy

Professor Layton's assistant. Luke is more of a Layton character than an Ace Attorney character, though he appears in Layton vs Wright alongside Layton. I wonder how many people who've played Ace Attorney have played the Layton games? I have only played the one Katrielle game (and well Layton vs Wright itself). Or Ghost Trick for that matter. Luke can talk to animals, and loves solving puzzles. He idolizes the Professor.

I'm not a big fan of Luke in the Layton games. He's kind of a one-trick pony. But it's played up well in PLvAA game, given his blind trust in the professor leads him to testify against his alleged killer, and then he has to learn to make his own inferences and adjust his allegiances accordingly. - MrSmartGuy

A young girl who goes on trial in one game almost as much as Maya Fey does in the entire series. Seriously, she gets accused of being a witch like Maya gets accused of murder. The storyteller is her father, and she believes that she's responsible for the legendary fire. In truth it was Eve, her friend, who was responsible. But it was an unfortunate accident, where everyone in town fell asleep because of a bell.

She's..... fine? I dunno, for such an important character to the story, she really doesn't do anything that makes her stand out imo. - MrSmartGuy

An absolute nothing of a character, just a complete waste of my time, absolutely deserves a low ranking in every way - Paratroopa1

Venus was my bottom 15 character I was surprised was still hanging around. Surprised to find multiple people actually like her.

Also Kudo is definitely underrated and someone I've come to appreciate over time.

And with that, my lowest remaining character is 257th (out of 314).

And that's now 4 top 100 characters out for me, with Lettie and Kudo joining the list.
