I read in the newspaper today that a couple random nobody elected officials nearby have defected to the Republican party for various embarrassing reasons. Seems like it goes that way the majority of the time.

Democrats - or rather, their voter base - are probably much less likely to trust an ex-R than the other way around.

I mean heck, half of them assume the other half are secret Republicans, what are they gonna be like with someone who openly and clearly is a former Republican?

Because they're racist and are just looking for company.

It's easier to corrupt someone than it is to anti-corrupt someone.

Democrat voters have higher standards so it's harder to earn their vote

Same reason why it's a lot easier to fall to the dark side than turn back to the light. Corruption is a persistent temptation for those in power and it can affect even those who go into the role with good intentions; by contrast, someone who is already corrupt seldom loses their taste for it.

To switch from (D) to (R), you need to sell your morals and you'll get well rewarded as the token Democrat in conservative circles. To do the reverse, you need to stop doing so and you'll be shunned, both by former allies and distrustful new coworkers. It's hard.

The RNC sends candidates to run as Democrats as a way to infiltrate the Democratic Party so as to have a stealth vote.

It's a significantly easier grift. Republicans love hearing people talk about how radical Democrats have become, and that being the reason a moderate dem switches parties. It affirms their worldview.

When I hear a Republican that got his face eaten complain about MAGA, my reaction is basically "yeah will fuck you too"

one of the weird aspects of politics is the idea of waffling. that there is no situation where a politician should ever change their mind, because its seen as weak to change their opinion.

That's all gaslighting and projection. No one thinks Trump tolerates dissenting opinions.
