(My personal favorite is "Divide & Conquer". Optimus is wounded by Starscream, Thundercracker and Skywarp. Ironhide, Bumblebee, Trailbreaker and Chip Chase have to travel to Ratchet's old workshop on Cybertron to retrieve a part before it's too late)

Im on a Transformers kick right now. I think Im hyper fixating a bit lol. Ive got the big fancy Till All Are One comic set preordered and Ive been reading the new Energon Universe comics.

Ive never actually watched the original show. I grew up with Armada and. Bayformers

I even bought a little foldable dvd player to watch it on. I think dvds look way better on a small screen rather than being blown up on a 4K tv. It just looks gross that way. Give me that old crt look. Ive also got some other old series dvds that will probably be fun to watch on it

What you need to do is borrow my TV to watch it, cause I've got my parents first color TV from 1986.

this topic made me realize that while i did watch a lot of random transformers episodes when i was young, i never watched all the episodes in order

If you really want, get the Find Your Fate books of The Transformers too (choose your own adventure type books). There were 9 books in the series.

These comics are awesome btw. There are GI Joe comics that apparently take place in the same universe but I havent read those yet. It seems like theyre trying to build a new comic universe with Hasbro properties. Ive heard there are talks for He-Man to be joining the Energon Universe which would be awesome. Imagine Optimus Prime fighting Skeletor or some shit lol. The whole universe is being overseen by Robert Kirkman (Invincible, Walking Dead) so theres some good talent on board

About 2009-ish, there were two separate GI Joe/Transformers crossovers comic book series. One bright and colorful, one pretty gritty.

I unironically fucking love G1 Transformers. Especially the movie.

Ive been looking into getting the Beast Wars dvds as well since people speak so highly of it. Looking at clips on YouTube though. Look I get that it was probably groundbreaking at the time but holy shit is that show ugly

Some of it looks wonky at times, but honestly I find the animation in BW to be quite good for the most part. It improves a bit over time. In comparison to Energon and Cybertron, movement and facial expressions in those shows was horrendous.

Its likely mostly nostalgia talking, but I still think that Beast Wars looks great.

Like, yes, a lot of the backgrounds, textures, etc. are iffy, but they absolutely nailed the character facial animation which is what matters most. I swear, Beast Wars looks better than even the War for Cybertron Netflix shows that aired a few years ago which just looked so stiff and lifeless.

Mostly. There was one very controversial episode called "Thief In The Night" (episode 76), that centers about a country called "Carbombya" (sound it out), it actually caused Casey Kasem to quit the show.

Yes, with the exception of Armada he's otherwise always been a Decepticon.

For some trivia, in Japan Laserbeak is called Condor, while Armada Laserbeak was named Cyberhawk.

Gen 1, Laserbeak was a cassette Decepticon that hung out inside Soundwave's chest compartment along with Rumble and Ravage (there were also a few others but they didn't appear as often as those three)

The writing on Beast Wars helps cover for the now primitive looking CG. The tail end of the second season is great. Bad Spark, Code of Hero and Transmutate is a great batch of episodes, then things kick up a notch with the Agenda 3-parter that ends the season.

Some of my favorite G1 episodes - Heavy Metal War (my favorite), The Key to Vector Sigma, Parts 1 and 2, War Dawn, Starscream's Brigade, Dark Awakening, Web World, Money is Everything, Call of the Primitives.

There's actually a bit of continuity between some of the 3rd season episodes of G1, though they were produced and aired out of order, and are probably out of order in whichever DVD set you have. The arc basically goes Five Faces of Darkness, followed by Fight or Flee and Thief in the Night in any order. Those 2 episodes set up Starscream's Ghost, which is followed by Ghost in the Machine.

Also, be ready for a roller coaster of animation quality in the 3rd season. Some episodes are horrible (Five Faces of Darkness, Carnage in C-Minor), many are alright, then there are some great ones. Call of the Primitives is probably the best animated episode in the series, using highly stylized designs and good frame rates. Web World, Money is Everything and Dweller in the Depths are others on the high end. A couple different animation studios were contracted for the season, with AKOM handling the bad ones. They also did 3 2nd season episodes which featured Devastator (which were also a step down from the other episodes), as well as the Rebirth 3-parter that was the 4th season. Toei did the better ones, though they subcontracted out to another group for Call of the Primitives.

I bought the dvd sets around 2016, fun times.

S1 - terrific run, core ensemble, introducing few & worthy new characters (i.e. toys).

S2 - so many episodes, many memorable backstories, though some filler with newer lesser characters - Seaspray & Powerglide eps just silly. Protectobots summoned out of nowhere ftw!

TF the movie 1986 is canon.

S3 was jarringly different as a kid, yet it's the best written, & best looking run of G1.

S4 3 episodes on the S3 dvd box, gives memorable wrap for G1

Say what you will about Bayformers, but 13 year old me thought this bit with Starscream was the coolest thing ever. Who am I kidding? 30 year old me still thinks its the coolest thing ever

Never made a mental connection between the peace conference in Surprise Party with the journal episodes. Just seemed like the Autobots were getting more involved with galactic politics for some reason, with another diplomatic conference in Madman's Paradise and those Olympic style games at the start of FFOD.

That's the fun thing about Season 3, and even Season 2. It needs to be watched in a certain order. Though what that certain order is, depends on the viewer lol.

Sucks that like everything else their prices have gone up too. However that doesn't seem to stop me. I have 8 recent purchases I still need to open, and just the other day bought two more.

The series is free on Roku Channel. Its in HD and looks gorgeous, much better than the SD DVDs (which I also have). GI Joe is also on Roku in HD.

Also The Movie takes place between Seasons 2 and 3 if youre wondering when to work that in.

I will say from what Ive watched of Beast Wars the voice acting is very good. T-Rex Megatrons voice is so hammy I love it. The dude is clearly having the time of his life being evil

Just watched the opening of Forever is a Long Time Coming on YouTube. The Quintesson sends the hook through the time window, it comes back holding a glowing green ball of energy. The Autobots fly through. As the Quintesson and guards head for their ships, the hook is setting down what it's holding. A-3 appears out of thin air on the ground next to the hook. The green energy isn't there, but perhaps it was supposed to be since the scene is riddled with other animation errors. Perceptor gets shot, then flies in with Rodimus (supposed to be Superion). Depending on the shot, Blaster or Rewind is missing from the group of Autobots that go back in time.

That's David Kaye. He and Garry Chalk voiced Megatron and Optimus Primal in Beast Wars, then returned to voice Megatron and Optimus Prime throughout the Unicron Trilogy. David even voiced Optimus Prime in Animated. Both of them are known to do Christmas messages over YouTube every year in character as well.

I don't know if it's still on sale but the bundle of Transformers the Movie/GI Joe the Movie was on sale for $4.99 on Apple the other day. Transformers is 4K and GI Joe is HD (but would upgrade if a 4K version is released)

Im thinking bout grabbing a 4K copy of Transformers One as well. I watched it on streaming and loved it, but streaming is temporary while physical media is forever. They will never make me go fully digital
