Didn't see a topic, which maybe speaks to how far the franchise has fallen. But also, it made a ton of money this weekend, so maybe this is a mini-resurgence?

Anyway, it was probably the best Jurassic movie since Lost World (same writer, and the co-writer of the first one). It actually felt like a real movie that wasn't 100% green screen. A couple good set pieces and not as wacky as the last few.

The dialogue and characters are awful as expected, and the first half hour put me to sleep, but it's got a decent middle. Solid 3/5.

It bears mentioning also that this one is pure 100% uncut nostalgia bait without being a carbon copy of the original. Not quite as self-plagiarizing as The Force Awakens, but close

Do you have any idea how many Land Before Time sequels there are??

Nobody else is making blockbuster dinosaur movies so what else are dinosaur fans gonna watch? The next SyFy hit DinoCobra vs GorillaWhale?

If the box office sales are international then it makes sense, these movies kill in China. They can't understand English so it's easy for them to ignore how bad the dialogue is and just focus on the cool dinos.

But also yeah to the thing about this being the only dinosaur franchise in existence, for some reason... Seriously do they have exclusive rights to fucking dinosaurs

Will get around to it for sure but not rushing out to see it. Saw an ad quoting a critic as saying its the best Jurassic in a decade and Im sure it is but thats a very low bar. In order to qualify for that you only need to be better than Fallen Kingdom and Dominion which are two rubbish films. Well at least with Gareth Edwards directing it should look great, one of the big issues with Dominion was how ugly it was.

Also Jurassic World>The Lost World imho. And these films make so much money because kids love them and love dinosaurs in general. The disparity in audience scores between children and adults for these films is always fun to see.

I won't die on this hill, but I do enjoy Lost World more. Like... it's not a good movie. But it's got that one trailer scene.

Gonna derail the topic a bit with perhaps an unpopular opinion: Scarlett should stick to comedy. She was not a good Black Widow and definitely the bad casting choice out of a stellar Avengers cast. She is much better at comedy

Possibly accurate because those two films are in fact rubbish. That being said, Rebirth was still not a good watch

the last one felt like Taken but with dinosaurs in the background.

This one is reminiscent of Jurassic Park 3 imo.

Hot take: I preferred Fallen Kingdom over this. Fallen Kingdom is messy and stupid but I was able to stay awake during it, I preferred its higher level of camp and attempts to do something silly and weird even if it was poorly conceived. Rebirth was just boring, and not really any better conceived.

All of the human parts were garbage, but that was expected. Even still their choices and decisions were bafflingly stupid at pretty much every opportunity.

The fact that the dinosaurs look cool doesn't make up for the fact that the existence of these particular dinos doesn't make any sense.

I know it seems silly to ask for a "logical" dinosaur movie, but you can't enjoy the fantasy element if you're too busy being dumbfounded by everyone's lack of sensible motivations.

Yeah, I haven't been able to get into... any Jurassic franchise film after the original. The Lost World was OK, I guess. I didn't even like Jurassic World.

Audiences effing l o v e these movies, so good for 'em, I guess. I wish there was competition out there. Competition that cared about its human cast and sought actual themes.

Full disclosure: I've seen neither Dominion nor Rebirth. I did see Fallen Kingdom, if only because I worked at an AMC that summer. It was... eh. The cinematography was sometimes brilliant. Everything else sucked.

I went to see it at few days ago

Im a huge JP/JW geek, and love dinosaurs (probably too much for my age haha).

I wasn't a huge fan of Fallen Kingdom or Dominion (except the nostalgia eastern eggs) and I didnt like the whole monster vibe they were going with for this film. The hybrids were a bit too far for me. So I went in almost primed to hate it.

But actually I thought it was pretty good. The story overall was decent, albeit a bit samey (dont go to the scary island, bad stuff can happen...then they go to the scary island and bad stuff happens lol). Decent new dinosaurs that kept it fresh but still with most of the fan faves, even if just cameos.

I was actually really pleased with lack of raptors for once.

My biggest grip with it was so obvious who was gonna live and die, and kinda overall what was gonna happen. The ending was also a tad bland. It was just fine.

Better than Fallen Kingdom. Better than Dominion. But not as good as JP1-3 or World.

I just don't understand how the audience can find these dinosaurs interesting when they're doing the same shit every time, which is be scary and threatening and that's what the audience is supposed to remember them by

Well you haven't seen any of the movies so...

A friend dragged me along to see it. I thought it was fine. Solid 6/10, won't change your life or anything but there are worse uses for 2 hours or so. The plot is nonsense, the dialogue is painfully bad most of the time, and the music is utterly forgettable, but the dinosaurs are cool and there's a couple legitimately entertaining action sequences. Very much a turn your brain off kind of movie.

It's not.

It's pretty good for a Jurassic sequel, but those are very different bars.

She was fantastic in Marriage Story.

This movie was boring, but also...

Somehow the second movie in the Jurassic World franchise where they significantly lowball the payment for something this dangerous in today's world. 10 million is not even close to worth for how dnagerous this was and the money to be made.
