54. Kuja

My, how the mighty have fallen. Well my IX playthrough is a long ways off, but perhaps MZero will gain a new appreciation for Kuja during his ongoing IX run?

Harder to stay afloat without that alt a(r)my.

Kuja is great though; not sure he'd be as great as his stats suggest without that tomfoolery though.

Oh, he almost certainly wouldn't. The run still happened though.

I had heard many things about the city of Midgar, but this was my first time getting to see it in person. It was like if Esthar let itself go. I avoided the areas atop the massive plate and traveled around underneath.

I eventually came across a church. I had heard a rumor a long time ago about how you could bring someone back to life by visiting this church. I didn't really believe it, but it couldn't hurt to check it out all the same.

There was nobody inside, and it didn't look like anyone had been here for a while. Despite that, the flowers in the center of the room were flourishing. I walked toward them, and then I heard a voice so clear it was like it was speaking directly into my mind.

"Oh hey, it's been a while since I've had visitors," the voice said.

I quickly scanned the room in all directions, but I couldn't find the source.

"Oh, don't bother looking for me. I'm not physically there."

"If you're not here, then how are you talking to me?" I asked.

"Because I'm a ghoOoOsSt who haunts those who come here!" the voice said with an exaggerated tone of voice. "Seriously though, don't sweat the details. That's not important right now. I just want to talk for a bit."

"Talk? To me?" I asked.

"Who else? It gets kinda lonely around here. By the way, I'm Aerith," she introduced herself.

"...I'm Squall," I responded, still uncertain about what was happening.

"Nice to meet you, sort of! I like your facial scar, by the way. Reminds me of a guy I know with spiky black hair," Aerith said.

I didn't know who she meant, but I instinctively disliked him, as if he had taken something from me before. Thankfully, I had a feeling I wouldn't be running into him any time soon, and it seemed I had eventually claimed what I had lost back then anyway.

"Wow, what's that like?" Aerith asked.

"What's what like?" I asked.

"Making it all the way to the end and coming out on top. It feels like I always fall short. I bet you wouldn't let a little thing like getting impaled at the end of disc 1 stop you. It might even make people think you've been dead the whole time," Aerith said.

"We're getting a little too meta now. I think that might be our cue, but how are you supposed to play?" I asked.

"No problem! I'm ready! I thought I might not get a chance to play you, so this will be fun for me," she said, probably more excited than she should have been.

The game started, and the cards on the other side moved on their own, being manipulated by some outside force. However, supernatural powers didn't give her supernatural skill at the game. I still managed to prevail, throwing down the Tidus card to win.

"Thanks for playing with me," Aerith said as the game concluded. "By the way, don't worry about trying to find me or anything. Ritz already got to me, but it's okay. I'll point you in the right direction because I know where she's headed next. You're only a couple of steps away, so don't give up and don't be afraid to ask for help. Good luck!"

With that, I left the church, unsure what to make of what I had just experienced but feeling revitalized all the same.

Phew, pj and bubu bailed out Prompto there. Just two more rounds for him to get XV's first ever top 10, can he make it?

Hmph! Only room for one character to overcome your negative nostalgia and improve, then. For shame. I bet this is all because Kuja is platinum blond instead of traditional golden blond, and totally not because you hate 99.99% of villains nope it's all about the hair color that's it. Bet you don't hate Kefka as much as Seymour or Kuja either
