With the direction this country is heading toward (spiraling down the drain to the gutter), it feels like a death sentence to stay in Red states (especially if you're member of marginalized/vulnerable demographics). Of course easier said than done, because moving is not easy and clearly not everyone has the resources to do so (unfortunately). Perhaps Blue states should offer assistance to those that want to escape?

The opposite is already happening. Blue states will continue to bleed House seats through 2030 census and later redistricting. Even as Texas and Florida become very slightly less red and gain those seats.

If we correctly identify 2028 as currently unwinnable for a Dem, 2032 will be even worse.

The map does not change in a meaningful way until Texas flips. If it ever does.

pretty sure there's not a state in the country that isn't beholden to the federal government, so why would they? hell, with the way trump is setting shit up you're going to see blue states fucked royally every time there's a natural disaster.

This. I had a friend that was super liberal and was moving to South Carolina. I repeatedly asked her if she was sure, but she was taken in by the cheaper housing.

Now she probably could have purchased a house back here, but just nowhere near as big.

I fell out of touch with her. I wonder how miserable she is now,

Unlikely, moving long distance is prohibitively expensive.

I moved from Southern California to Washington and even trying to keep costs down as much as possible it still cost a few thousand dollars.

bitch at your local government for that, a huge problem is that lots of cities/neighborhoods aren't zoned for anything but single family homes. so no new duplexes and no new apartments.

This is surely what Trump intends, but he and his goons are too incompetent to do that (e.g., TX flooding).

So there will basically be no Federal disaster relief anywhere in the US as long as these criminal clowns are in power.

theres also the fact that fema isn't just a money printing machine. their primary role is coordination, without them you're not going to see power crews from other states coming in to help fix the power, you're not going to see organized distributions of essential goods when the water stops flowing and all your food goes bad, shelter organization is going to go to absolute shit.

that's not a red or blue thing, that's a 50s era throwback to suburbia. limits like that were pushed through pretty much nation wide by politicians who were either funded by or were themselves real estate brokers. look at any suburb in any state and i can promise you that the neighborhood isn't zoned for an apartment or duplex.

I've been pitching setting New Mexico up as a sanctuary state to basically anyone who will listen in our state government.

Like full-on programs to help people move here, housing and job aide, moving cost assistance, the whole nine.

Got a State Senator and an Actual Senator expressing interest.

The state itself suffers from unbelievable braindrain, among other things this would be a way to start mitigating that.

Gotta get people to stop leaving while getting new people to come in.

We already refuse to cooperate with out-of-state prosecution on things like abortion care, we're setting the groundwork already.

The people I'm highlighting with my own proposal are the ones where we can either lose a blue vote from them moving or we can lose one from them getting murdered.

One wonders what could possibly be better in a red state.

Less corruption? LOL

More bigotry, sure, but that's not a point in favor.

More competence? LOL

Better economy? LOL

I live in MA and this has been a big thing the last few years, but pretty much every town/city votes against adding zoning for multi-family housing because people who own single family homes, or landlords with 2-3 family homes are worrying about losing equity on their buildings.
