WSJ reporting that for Epstein's 50th birthday a bunch of his friends sent him "bawdy letters." Trump was one of them and WSJ has seen it and holy shit lmao he is so guilty.

(WSJ itself is paywalled so here's a CNBC link instead)

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/07/17/trump-jeffrey-epstein-birthday-letter-wsj.html

But the kicker here is the written section transcribed here:

"A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday - and may every day be another wonderful secret."

According to the Journal, the letter contains several lines of typewritten text framed by the outline of a naked woman, which appears to be hand-drawn with a heavy marker.

A pair of small arcs denotes the womans breasts, and the future presidents signature is a squiggly Donald below her waist, mimicking pubic hair, the Journals Khadeeja Safdar and Joe Palazzolo reported.

He asked Bondi (and she replied) on social media to unseal "any pertinent" info from the grand jury but:

  1. "pertinent" aka he could claim any damning info on him/Republicans is not "pertinent" and only stuff on Dems is being "unsealed."
  2. More importantly, this would require court approval... and what Trump is asking here is a violation of Grand Jury rules so it's going to get shot down by the court
So it looks like the current play is to try and pass the buck and say "the DEEP STATE COURTS are blocking the release! i tried!!!"

Even if the court complies and says "sure" what they're asking for is just the surface level stuff and not what people are really asking for.

i love that the internet always has receipts

i hate how it doesn't matter at all for the people that it should

In a flurry of frantic Truth Social posts on Thursday night, Trump doubled down on his lack of artistic skills. These are not my words, not the way I talk. Also, I dont draw pictures.

The internet, though, always keeps the receiptsand there were some hefty clues that Trump may not be telling the truth.
In his 2008 book, Trump Never Give Up: How I Turned My Biggest Challenges into Success, Trump wrote about his new talent, adding he usually draws for charity and that it takes me a few minutes to draw something, in my case, its usually a building or a cityscape of skyscrapers.
He continued: Art may not be my strong point, but the end result is help for people who need it.

The page in the book even includes one of Trumps drawings.

In January, prestigious auction house Sothebys sold another Trump portrait, this one in his beloved color of gold, for $15,000.
The sketch, said to be reminiscent of Riverside South development project in Manhattan, was originally done for a celebrity art auction to benefit Capuchin Food Pantry, dubbed Doodle for Hunger.
While the picture was dated 2004 by Trump, Sothebys states it was initially drawn in 2003, the same year he allegedly sent another doodle to his close friend Jeffrey Epstein.

Someone replied that Trump is probably confused because abuse of exclusivity is how he had previously arranged for his buddies at the National Enquirer to kill unfavorable stories on his behalf. NE would pay for the "exclusive" rights to a story and then elect not to run it.

So his primary experience with that word as it relates to journalism is when it is wielded as a weapon to prevent stories from being released.

This could be a double-edged sword, parents could try to coerce them into voting for the candidate they are voting for by threatening them. Can 16 year olds handle adult responsibility?

I'm cool with the UK voting from age 17 onward plus those who turn 17 within the academic year. 16 though is potentially too risky, especially if not handled properly. Would those aged 15 but in the final academic year be left out while those already 16 get a chance? Because I think that's incredibly unfair to those born later in the academic year. Imagine if there is a election in May and June but those turning 16 in the summer get left out while all their 16 year old peers get to vote.

Also, parents coercing 16/17 years isn't the biggest concern coming out of this (there are parents that would do so to their child even if they were in their early 20's if not deep into their adulthood). I'd be more concerned with school peers coercing others to vote or social media manipulating vulnerable teens.

Compulsory voting is a great idea as long as you're allowed to turn in a partially or entirely blank ballot.

My understanding of compulsory voting is that it's more about removing soft disenfranchisement than it is about forcing people to take a side. For example, if you ask for time off to go vote, your boss might favor his employees who don't leave work to vote. But he can't do that if all his employees are legally compelled to go vote. It's also one of the few ways of pushing back against the widespread propaganda that voting is a waste of time, by forcing the time to be wasted regardless.

Yep, its this. Compulsory voting effectively just removes voter suppression from the equation entirely. So much of electoral politics is trying to suppress peoples votes, disproportionately those who are young and/or minorities. This would basically just make democracy a level playing field.

Its not really a European thing. Only a small handful of European countries have it. It is much more popular in the Americas, though the big success story with it is Australia.

The truth is the US would probably benefit from compulsory voting more than most other democracies. And remember, you can always spoil your ballot. It just changes voting from opt in to opt out.

OK, but what if you enact compulsory voting with strict penalties but also keep using voter suppression tactics to stop people from voting? Would that be a feasible plan to create a permanent criminal underclass with no rights whatsoever? Asking because there's a certain country between Canada and Mexico where I think that would be the likely outcome.

Compulsory voting in the US would be bad because a large chunk of people who don't care about voting would get pissed they're being forced to do so, and would just vote against whoever was in charge at the time for making them do so.

And considering Republicans would never be the ones to start this....

I've never heard of government policies designed to prevent people from paying their taxes, certainly not to the degree they do to prevent voting. Tax returns are probably more complicated than they need to be for most people, but that's about it. Like, imagine if states could require taxes be filed in person on April 15th during business hours only, with no guaranteed time off that day and certain areas being massively overcrowded such that the line to file taxes is several hours long. And if you don't (or can't) go along with this, the IRS gets to ruin your life forever. That's the sort of issue I'd worry about with compulsory voting.

a) Filing taxes is complicated, costly, and time-consuming. If you don't see that as a policy designed to prevent people from paying their taxes that's fine but I definitely do.

b) Presumably a government that was capable of passing a law making voting compulsory would also be able to pass a law that allows doing it by mail in advance, etc. We're not dropping compulsory voting onto otherwise unchanged 2025 America just to fuck around and see what happens.

c) Voting being compulsory does not mean that the IRS would need to ruin the life of anyone who doesn't do it. They already don't do that even with not paying taxes, most of the time. I know you're arguing for the worst case scenario here but I'm not sure why The Government of Supervillains in your scenario has decided to use compulsory voting as the method of creating a criminal underclass when they could use anything else and not have a possibility of it backfiring on them by vastly expanding voter turnout.
