I've thought this before, but this really feels like the beginning of the end.

What can we expect as a distraction tomorrow?

1. "pertinent" aka he could claim any damning info on him/Republicans is not "pertinent" and only stuff on Dems is being "unsealed."
2. More importantly, this would require court approval... and what Trump is asking here is a violation of Grand Jury rules so it's going to get shot down by the court

Even if the court complies and says "sure" what they're asking for is just the surface level stuff and not what people are really asking for.

In a flurry of frantic Truth Social posts on Thursday night, Trump doubled down on his lack of artistic skills. These are not my words, not the way I talk. Also, I dont draw pictures.

The internet, though, always keeps the receiptsand there were some hefty clues that Trump may not be telling the truth.
In his 2008 book, Trump Never Give Up: How I Turned My Biggest Challenges into Success, Trump wrote about his new talent, adding he usually draws for charity and that it takes me a few minutes to draw something, in my case, its usually a building or a cityscape of skyscrapers.
He continued: Art may not be my strong point, but the end result is help for people who need it.

The page in the book even includes one of Trumps drawings.

The sketch, said to be reminiscent of Riverside South development project in Manhattan, was originally done for a celebrity art auction to benefit Capuchin Food Pantry, dubbed Doodle for Hunger.
While the picture was dated 2004 by Trump, Sothebys states it was initially drawn in 2003, the same year he allegedly sent another doodle to his close friend Jeffrey Epstein.

if it's an EXCLUSIVE then why does everybody know about it huh????????

Someone replied that Trump is probably confused because abuse of exclusivity is how he had previously arranged for his buddies at the National Enquirer to kill unfavorable stories on his behalf. NE would pay for the "exclusive" rights to a story and then elect not to run it.

So his primary experience with that word as it relates to journalism is when it is wielded as a weapon to prevent stories from being released.

Next make voting compulsory please.

If anyone wants a bit of a break from the trump stuff, the UK is lowering the voting age to 16 for all elections. Good stuff, both because its right (if you can work full time you can vote) but also has the advantage of weakening the right. Next make voting compulsory please.

This might be dumber than anything Trump has said this week.

Also, parents coercing 16/17 years isn't the biggest concern coming out of this (there are parents that would do so to their child even if they were in their early 20's if not deep into their adulthood). I'd be more concerned with school peers coercing others to vote or social media manipulating vulnerable teens.

Compulsory voting is a great idea as long as you're allowed to turn in a partially or entirely blank ballot.

What is even the point then?

Imagine if there is a election in May and June but those turning 16 in the summer get left out while all their 16 year old peers get to vote.

My understanding of compulsory voting is that it's more about removing soft disenfranchisement than it is about forcing people to take a side. For example, if you ask for time off to go vote, your boss might favor his employees who don't leave work to vote. But he can't do that if all his employees are legally compelled to go vote. It's also one of the few ways of pushing back against the widespread propaganda that voting is a waste of time, by forcing the time to be wasted regardless.

Europeans are wild

Compulsory voting effectively just removes voter suppression from the equation entirely.

OK, but what if you enact compulsory voting with strict penalties but also keep using voter suppression tactics to stop people from voting?

US politicians are afraid of compulsory voting because all the non-voters would "protest" vote for 3rd parties and the 2-party system would never win another election ever again

This is already exactly how paying taxes works so I think it would basically end up like that.

a) Filing taxes is complicated, costly, and time-consuming. If you don't see that as a policy designed to prevent people from paying their taxes that's fine but I definitely do.

Make babies register as either R or D at birth so their vote is automatically counted for that party unless they go in and put in a ballot with a different vote

Why??? That baby wont have a choice. It wont know what politics are. Its the parents that choose their childs vote in that scenario. And if the kid auto votes anyway theyll never actually vote for themselves.That sounds like a really great way to rig elections.
