You're walking along one day when a mom protectively pulls her 13/14 year old daughter close as you walk by, as if you were a wild boar. She points at you and tells her daughter "See that sweetie? Whatever you do, make sure you stay away from people like him ok? Losers like that complete failure will bring you down and ruin your life."

I had something similar happen once. At my old job doing maintenance at an interstate rest area. Cleaning duties were part of the job, and I e day I was sweeping up the trash from the parking lot. And a guy pulled his kid over, and told him that if he didn't start studying and doing better in school that he'd end up like me. I heard him ask "You don't want to end up like him do you?"

I wasn't in a good mental space anyway, but that had me disheartened for days.

Plumbers make bank and in constant demand. It's a great trade to get into
