Massive tax cuts for the richest 2006-2014 and 2022-today have led to less and less money for hospitals and clinics, which is now leading to cuts of healthcare staff across the nation. The clinic I work at is losing 15% of our staff after Summer, directly due to lack of funding. The money we receive for each patient visit hasnt been increased in years, while rents and material costs keep going up. And this is in the richest Region in the country. In already understaffed rural areas they dont have money to hire.

But hey, at least the rich will have more money to spend on trips and maids and pools and whatnot <(:D)> And we get to hate immigrants openly and blame them for everything.

We did have a Left-leaning government 2014-2022 but Riksdagen (our parliament) had a fiscal Right-wing majority those years too so that government didnt get changes approved. They had to work with Center-Right liberal parties to stay in office.

We still are in many ways compared to most of the world, but the Right is working hard to change that.

It is Right-wing politics in general. Sweden would probably still have a monarch with actual powers and voting would be reserved for rich white men if the Right had their way. They have been objecting to the changes that gave us regular citizens more rights for centuries.

I just do not get how people are so easily duped over and over and over about how it is in their best interest to cede power to the rich, let the take away all of their benefits and pass the tax burdens back to the less fortunate.

Such a win-win bargain!

In 2006 the Right campaigned on change and something new. We had had the same PM, Socialdemocrat leader Gran Persson, for 10 years and people were starting to be tired of him. He felt tired himself. So people voted for a younger fresh face. Persson should have stepped down ahead of the 2006 election but his crown princess, Minister of Foreign Affairs Anna Lindh, was assassinated in 2003 and the party was without a clear successor so he stayed on.

The Conservative leader, Fredrik Reinfeldt, who became PM in 2006 was narrowly re-elected in 2010. Incumbent advantage mixed with a confused messy opposition.

In 2022 anti-immigration views gave the Right a razor thin victory: 176 MPs vs 173.

Many Swedes of today take everything the Socialdemocrats built up under the 1900s for granted. They cant envision is being dismantled even when it is.

But current polling is a nightmare for the Right-wing coalition government.

And you see, it is of course because of immigrants that social security has been weakened. That is the bait that many took hook, line and sinker in 2022.

Healthcare is technically run by each of our 21 Regions but they get a lot of their funding from the national level. We only have a total population of 10 million after all. The more rural Regions are especially vulnerable since they are big but have a small population. Like our northernmost Region Norrbotten which cover 25% of the country but have a population of approx 250 000.

Because if they start taxing the rich, it will cut into their hypothetical money when they become rich.

Any day now.

It is sad that this is happening.

I think folks who hate universal health coverage should have to pay out of pocket for healthcare in the United States.

I recently went to a local urgent care because of a cough I was dealing with. Not dying, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't anything more serious that could be contagious.

The bill for a strep test and a COVID-19 test was fucking $450. I thank God that I have decent health coverage because of my job.

The party name is a very deliberate and focus group-ed choice. They used to call themselves Hgerpartiet which literally means The Right-wing party but the name scared away voters so they changed it to sound nicer.

No they can't.

Fucking everything up to benefit only the ultra-rich is the main thing any version of political conservatism wants to do. And the main tool they have to get this done is scapegoating others to get stupid voters to vote for the right to deal with the imaginary "threat".

So they end up tearing society apart for their wretched cause.

Sorry to hear this. I went to the Good Trouble Lives On rally in Chicago which targetted rising authortarianism and cuts to health services.https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/f/f78f4b15.jpg

Our ancestors fought so we could have healthcare and education. Somehow we got the idea that it is enough to work, pay taxes and vote. It oughta be enough but it aint.

That was the cost without insurance.

They sent me a bill for that money. I immediately called the insurance company to complain and ask why. Apparently they made a billing mistake (they processed it as an out-of-network bill when in fact it should have been an in-network bill) and changed it for me so that I only had to pay the $30 copay.

This highlights a few things:
-Healthcare in the US for people who are uninsured is fucking highway robbery
-Even if you have insurance, clerical errors can often lead to you being overcharged. Approximately 80% of medical bills in the US contain errors, so there's a good chance that your hospital or doctor is "accidentally" billing your insurance company excessively
-If I didn't call to complain, I would have ended up paying $450 for routine medical procedures. The lesson is that you should never just pay any medical bill, because there's a good chance it was a mistake.
-All of this would be solved with any given model of universal health coverage
