If you want a slightly less dumb alternative, looking into Expanding Earth. It at least has some degree of plausibility, instead of being "turtles all the way down".

These days I've soured on reading crazy conspiracy theories because of how they've become a mental shortcut for some of the worst people.

But my favorite ones have to surround how extremely protective governments around the world are of Antarctica. It's pretty obvious why they are so protective, because Antarctica is just THAT fragile and if it was colonized/exploited then it would be a global disaster.

But there are tons of theories ranging from antarctica being the secret city for the wealthiest of the world when things go to crap (That one is actually true, but it's not in antarctica), to being the edge of the world, giant ice ball theory or being the wall to greater earth.

It's true. A former US official confirmed that they embezzled 21 trillion dollars to create a network of underground cities for the wealthy in case of apocalypse. They started construction in the 90's and just finished up in 2015.

What gets me is that, of all the batshit insane things that guy has said, the one that gets memed the most is the one that is sort of true. Technically it would be chemicals turning the frogs trans rather than gay, as some of the affected male frogs have testosterone suppressed to the point they become reproductively functional females.

Don't know how widespread a theory it is but I had a customer once who went on about how Prince Andrew orchestrated Princess Diane's death because she was going to expose his pedo antics.

When I worked at a computer store I had a customer who always paid cash because credit cards have a GPS chip in them that allows the government to track you.

And that just reminded me of what is probably one of my favorite conspiracy theories.

That's especially silly given that the transaction records already essentially track where cardholders go, or at least where they spend money. GPS chips would be redundant.

I do have to question the logic, though, of believing that credit cards - which are manufactured and distributed by private companies - have government GPS chips in them, but cash - which is manufactured by the government - doesn't.

The sort of "GPS chips" that would even fit into credit cards or cash would be RFID or NFC chips, which are useless without a transceiver within a handful of inches.

That would be silly. Everyone knows the government uses cash to gather DNA data from everyone who touches it, and the government can't possibly be efficient enough to use cash for two purposes when they can build an entirely separate second system at twice the cost.

I know a couple of schizophrenic folks. I know they can't help it, but their 'theories' typically only exist once the prerequisite information that makes the theory possible is available.

This eternal conflict raging in the shadows means neither agency is able to actually get anything done.

Yeah, people like to discredit things by parroting something stupid that nobody actually says. There are literally hundreds of videos of first responders and various other people who said they heard explosions, firefighters included. But of course they've probably been mostly wiped from YouTube. That and 2 planes 3 buildings. Most people dont even know about the 3rd building
