i've never watched breaking bad, cant get past like the second episode where they try to melt a body in a bathtub, but if its anything like better call saul then i imagine you spend most of the series trying to like the MC and ignoring all his faults until you reach a point that you cant keep rationalizing away how much of an asshole they are.

Yeah exactly like that, but instead of a guy that you can give plausible deniability to cause he initially presents as a down on his luck guy trying to practice the law it's a guy that almost immediately starts selling meth, refuses any sort of help that are clear off-ramps of the stories apparent trajectory, and even kills a guy; and that's 3 episodes into a 7 episode first season. So its weird how people even to this day just completely miss the point despite Walter himself telling you directly that he's a monster at multiple points in the story just to hate on Skyler.

Because many people enjoy watching entertaining characters, rather than good ones. Scarface is beloved, but he's not a good dude. Breaking Bad is a story about a villain, it doesn't hide that fact.

Skyler isn't just boring, she's an impediment to anything interesting, at least in the first season. Once she starts existing as her own character, rather than just a road block to Walt, she stops sucking away all the energy when she's on screen.

All joking aside, SKyler is a great character and Anna Gunn does amazing

Also re: Iron Man and Vegeta, they frequently eat shit and get humbled, which I think is the key to arrogant characters. Anyone can be as haughty as they want, so long as they don't feel "invincible". Even Sherlock Holmes was made a fool in his first short story. >_>

No one should "look up to" any character in NGE. They're all multiple levels of fucked up. Definitely wouldn't consider Asuka a "girlboss". People who think so clearly misunderstand the character.

Note that I'm not trashing the video by any means but watching NGE as an adult really makes you see things differently. And this is coming from the guy who actually has several Asuka wallscrolls lol.

There's a Trope on TVTropes called "Jerks Are Worse than Villains" or something to the effect. Basically how truly evil people are easier to distance from as fictional characters, where unlikable/bully characters feel more down-to-earth and therefore less likable because they remind you of people you know.

Yeah. Arrogant characters need a good humbling every now and then to keep them likable. A great example would be when Batman knocked out Guy Gardner in a single punch when Guy being a jackass as usual lol

This video is completely valid and highly useful information.

It's weird that people online hate on characters for being arrogant and cocky (even when their arrogance is a clearly defined flaw that has genuine consequences in the story not played for cheap laughs), purely because those characters happen to be female (and particularly if they're tomboyish-looking or especially if they're visibly non-White), while such characters wouldn't get nearly as much hatred if they were White, more feminine-looking or if they were just male characters instead.

Also, most tsundere characters in anime/manga (and anime-style video games) somehow escape criticism, even when they're far more noxious and commit far more reprehensible acts than most "girlboss" characters in Western fictional media without facing any real repercussions for their actions, purely because they're cute-/attractive-looking, because they have that softer side to them, because people are weebs, because minority characters in anime/manga often don't visibly look like minority groups to Westerners the same way such characters do in Western works, and because tsundere characters' actions are often played for cheap laughs.

And yeah, the infamous anti-woke grifters online only help accentuate this problem with online society even further.

He's the main character so you're supposed to follow the story from his perspective, not throw away your ability to comprehend context and subtext.
