how far into your degree are you?

I would finish it if your're within reach. I ended up in a career way different than my degree, but just having finished it gave me more options.

from what I hear trades are in a rough spot right now as well.

Everybody is saying they want to go into a trade which will depress wages significantly. Also it's very physical manual work that will tear up your body. Accounting is still a regulated industry that needs human fact checkers and oversight.

I went to business undergrad and I think a business degree in something like supply chain, finance or accounting is still one of the best things you can do with 4 years of college, at least as far as personal finances go.

Get your degree. At minimum, accounting can be a very good back up

Im about halfway through but I havent been in school for over 10 yrs. I was thinking about doing the degree hack method on study.com where you take accredited courses and then transfer all the credits to an online school and finish any remaining classes there. Im scared AI will make accounting profession obsolete though

There are a ton of accounting things I can't imagine AI being able to do or work around. At the very least keep at it as a step to becoming an auditor because 90% of businesses still haven't moved away from hastily stored paper documents that even if scanned still need a hard copy in storage.

I remember trying to use AI for some home accounting stuff and the Ai was just incredibly off. So I wouldn't worry about it taking all the accounting jobs just yet.

Accounting frequently doesn't rank very high on those lists of jobs to be "replaced by AI." I have a few theories why but if that's your worry I'm surprised I see things like CNC Machining way higher than accounting.

Finish the degree. There are so many avenues that open up. Especially if you are going to a school that has a decent alumni base.

I've thought about getting out, but every time this pulls me back in. Also work from home all day which is a plus too.

Nah, finish your degree then go into trades. That degree could probably land you a job as a fleet manager and they get payed very well.

As an accountant, AI has a really long way to go before it can replace accountants. Like it might be able to handle some basic bookkeeping or AP clerk work before long, but the real accounting work still requires too much judgment and is way too critical to a company to replace it any time soon.
