Its too much like alien covenant in that it wants to be this more sophisticated philosophical debate about what is life. but at the end of the day all its doing is a basic psy101 class and shoehorning a murderous xeno because without that creature its not an alien product. And both sides are completely counterproductive to the other. Id much rather have a story about a kid in an adult robot body that has nothing to do with xenomorphs. Being set 2 years before the Nostromo means that whatever damage the Xenomorph and the other specimens are going to do will be largely contained as far as worldwide exposure goes. Limits the scope of what possibly can happen, which wouldn't have been the case if they'd set it after Ripley's time, but before WY going bust. The WY executives in Aliens are able to play ignorant about the Xeno and the general idea of something hostile like it being in any planet humans have explored and evidently Ripley never heard about it despite the fact that a WY ship full of dangerous creatures crash landing into a tower block would ba a major historical event. It also seems like the personalities/ maturity the Hybrids have now is where they're going to be stuck at if ~~Kavelier~~ is any indication.
