I have a suspicious feeling that Newsom's team might lean too far into the anti-MAGA trolling and ironically we'll end up with a bunch of insufferable Gen X jabronis blindly supporting literally everything Newsom says and does to "own the cons" just like how Boomers jumped on the Trump train.

People really need to to stop with this disinformation about Boomers. Most Boomers didn't vote for Trump, in fact they voted for Trump at the same rate as Millennials (what most people here are). The only generation Trump got a majority from, and it was a big majority, was Gen X. Gen X is the most conservative generation. Swing voters that went for Trump in 2024 cannot have had any rational basis for thinking Trump would make their lives better. Instead, it was just vibes and bullshit.

Again, I never said they were rational. The vibe was Trump said everything was fucked and he would make it better, and Harris said everything is fine because we already made it better. Do you really think swing voters en masse were voting for Trump not thinking he'd magically fix the economy with his business genius or reduce crime by just throwing more cops at the problem?

Elections have been "lesser of two evils" our ENTIRE FUCKING LIVES. Now is no different.

Are democrats perfect and ideal? No. Far from it in fact.

But are they INARGUABLY BETTER THAN THE NOW OPENLY FASCIST REPUBLICAN PARTY, IN ANY POSITION, EACH TIME, EVERY TIME!? Of fucking COURSE they are.

Trump is openly floating the idea of rigging the next election onstage in front of cameras, and you people are STILL handwringing over dems.

These are all true:

1) Any Democrat is better than every Republican.

2) Preferably, Newsom doesn't win the 2028 D primary, since there are already better choices, and more options may show up.

3) Newsom is giving a good example of one way to resist Trump. Of course social media trolling isn't a complete answer, but it is a legit part of the "every form of resistance, including the kitchen sink" strategy that Democrats should be doing (but mostly aren't).

And since such things need to be explicitly said, should Newsom make it through the primaries and become the candidate, it will then be time for all of his critics (including me) to shut up about his shortcomings, vote for him, and do what we can to suppress the inevitable Republican ratfucking that will seek to divide the left.

As long as he's doing something significant like redistricting the maps then I got no problem with the trolling.
