Honestly, if I were George, I would be relishing in the fact I had all these crazed "fans" being super tilted over my stuff and never release any more of it on purpose, just to see how much more tilted they get.

I know he said he won't let anyone finish it, but I bet it gets finished less than a decade after he dies

At this point, the expectations are so high that people are going to be disappointed no matter how it turns out, so I dont think youll find any author willing to risk putting their name on a potato that hot.

Let's be real here. Being disappointed by an ending is far better than being disappointed by the lack of one.

Of course they would. They started to make the show when we still only had the first 4 books and Martin was already showing signs of slowing down, he was very vocal about him writing himself into a corner. There was zero chance the series would have been finished before the show ran it's course.

People need to learn someday to stop cult worshipping celebrities. GRRM would disappear from social media and conventions, if his followers would stop following him, and find something else to occupy their entertainment. There are a lot of other medieval fantasy, book series out there to read.

I think they still would have, because the first 3 books were that great. They would've instead been better prepared for when the show got caught up with books, and had to end the series with brand new material.

Same. Just give me a conclusion, one way or another, so that I can move on with my day and get into a different series. I don't care if it sucks, if the rest of series has entertained me greatly. A good example being the Mass Effect Trilogy video games.

I don't agree with that. I much prefer a forever unknown on a definite shitstain.

That said, nobody should have high expectations considering how bad Dance of Dragons was.

To me that is different than say Patrick Rothfuss who doesnt seem to hardly be doing anything except telling us how much better of a writer he is now but wont finish the final book. So ultimately yeah it sucks,ni wish we had a complete series but Im not going to be angry at George.

Uggghhhhh it fucking kills me that we're never gonna get that book.
At least with GoT we have AN ending. Rothfuss has no excuse.

I thought it was better than Feast (not that I thought Feast was particularly good). Those first three books were great though.

Yeah, I remember some author going off on a rant about how GRRM and... the other guy notorious for this shit, have seriously fucked things up for fantasy writers, because nobody wants to take a risk on new authors in case they also do this shit. And because those new authors can't get eyes on their first books, publishers are reluctant to give them second books unless word of mouth proves really effective.

I think authors should make individual books of a series worth existing outwith the rest of the series.

Due to GRRM being a known procrastinator, the show directors did actually get an ending out of him (what he had at the time anyway). I won't comment on implementation since the two guys wanted to go do something with Star Wars (and were denied doing this after how they botched Season 8 of GoT), but the basics elements of the ending we got are assumed to line up with GRRM's vision.

People too touchy talking about death. After a certain age it's just something to accept that's coming sooner rather than later.

That said, I gave up on the series. It was a good read but I ain't gonna pretend to care about shit that is taking this long to make any more. If it comes out I'll probably grab it on sale.

The issue with walking up to someone you're a stranger to and telling them out of nowhere that they're going to die soon isn't about not accepting death, lol.

I agree with you, but that basically screws over anyone trying to start a series who needs the first book to be successful to be able to write more books. Hence, the opinion stated here...

And hence why GRRM is despised to the extent that he is. Sad thing is he could keep being a lazy ass and just have someone ghost write the last two books and all these issues wouldn't exist. He won't allow it though...heck, he wants his unfinished manuscripts burned. What a jerk.

That stance fucked over an entire generation of authors. Most people cant afford to write all the books before any of them start selling. I actually think not reading until uts done is fine, as long as you still buy the books while waiting for the last one.

I dont buy that the show reception made him scrap everything. He was already 8 years after ADWD and had nothing to show.
