Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons says his agency is planning to "flood" Boston after Mayor Michelle Wu defied calls from the federal government to comply with their immigration policies.

There's no way they have the capacity to do this sort of shit country wide, right? I know this is a dry run for what they can get away with, but this isn't a country the size of Germany. Scaling it out to stretch across the whole country would surely dilute them and make them ineffective.

Have street sweepers go through when they show up.

They don't really need to do it nationwide, just in the major blue cities that aren't falling in line.

Back in April there was an EO which is now cited. I thought executive orders were emergency orders and at most active for 90 days.

Bondi cites an executive order issued by Donald Trump on 28 April which called for the attorney general to identify jurisdictions that obstruct the enforcement of Federal immigration laws then to notify each sanctuary jurisdiction regarding its defiance of Federal immigration law enforcement and any potential violations of Federal criminal law as a precursor to prosecution or withholding grants.

Boston is one of the safest major cities in the country. This ICE director going on about a "public safety crisis" is full of shit.

Tbh I thought they meant literally flood because this administration is about doing dumb crazy shit to hurt Americans

Boston should respond by arresting all of the ICE agents.

Trump isn't known for his sound decision making. I'm thinking right now he's offering the carrot, if that doesn't work, the stick is next.

we actually still had some executive orders active from the 70s I think until
trump discontinued them

I love Mayor Wu. She's a strong mayor. She's been on our side and has not been afraid to stand up for us. We are a very, very active city. It won't go over very well.

it's more of a repeat what was done to washington. but i agree.

they're going to move the homeless out of there and target illegals. at least the mayor isn't backing down (can't give em the satisfaction).

Nope. Executive orders are exactly what they sound like - an order to the executive branch from the man in charge of them. They remain standing and in force until one of the following happens:
1) An expiration date or condition within the order itself triggers.
2) A court invalidates it as unconstitutional.
3) The president rescinds it.

They dont even have the capacity to do it in Chicago.

The only reason for this is theyre hoping someone shoots at the troops and gives them a justification to institute martial law.

who controls the budget though? congress technically, but seeing that they're controlled by the republican party and republicans are constantly censored trump in practice trump controls the budget. so there's no real reason why he cant just keep increasing it to keep building up his gestapo.

And they'll burn thru even an increased budget quickly. Also resources isn't just about money. It's manpower too and ICE is having. Lot of difficulty recruiting. Turns out no one likes them.
