The gameplay is pretty fun and the story is a spectacle even if it is very stupid.

yes, it's pretty much everything besides the mobile game obviously but does have the movie that story. then just cutscenes of days and recoded but recoded sucked and although i did enjoy days the gameplay was pretty shallow and got tedious to play after awhile so just watching like 10 minutes of cutscenes is all you really need for it. if you never played the games or just played the ps2 ones and don't have any of the newer ones than $60 for it all is definitely way cheaper than i paid for the majority of them but i bought most when they launched. you can probably get like close to 500 hours out of them all. well if you plan to beat the secret bosses.

That's definitely worth it if you've never played any of the games. The story is an absolute mess, but the gameplay of the 3 main games are a blast, imo.

Yeah the gameplay is good and the worlds are fun (assuming you like Disney, there is barely any Final Fantasy related stuff).

Well the things you can do are cool. Commands, command styles, shot locks, and whatever. The things you must do (dodge spam, occasionally counter attack) are not.

I think other than it being way too easy, KH3 has some pretty good gameplay.

That's exactly the problem. I quite enjoyed the combat for most of the game.

But the last few bosses which are actually difficult reveal just how bad the combat is.

Frankly, I think they were just poorly designed bosses.

Designing a boss that is built on you using the dodge roll non-stop to maximize invincibility frames is a pretty lousy approach.

That's fair, criticizing the same thing from the other angle. Is the combat poorly designed because the difficult bosses suck to fight or are the bosses poorly designed because they don't fit the combat system?

The one argument I will make in favor of it being the combat system is that it uses KH2's revenge value mechanic....but it doesn't actually give the bosses a revenge value. So bosses can retaliate and counterattack you out of nowhere.

People overrate how convoluted the story is. Play the games in the proper order, pay attention to the cutscenes, and read the Reports in-game (and this is somewhat optional), and you should be fine. Theres one mechanic that I feel wasnt explained appropriately, which is a fair criticism. Games you can play range from decent to excellent, its worth getting on sale for the amount of hours.

Its pretty easy to digest whats happening at most times, except when its intentionally obscured. People act like things happen for no reason, but it explains what you need to know well enough.

Yeah, I don't think BBS has the smoothness of KH2 behind it, and you can feel it. I think it's competent for what you have to work with, and this shows when you are up against normal enemies. Some of the commands you can forge are just devastating.

But then let their C-team handle the boss designs? Or maybe they thought the abilities made the player too powerful, so they were all designed in such a way that you couldn't really use the combat system to gain an unfair advantage? Sure, let's throw balancing fights around all those cool abilities out the window, and instead just have the player dodge roll and thunder surge spam.

The first game is a classic.
After that it pretty much goes off the rails and gradually becomes more nonsensical.

The actual gameplay for most of the games is pretty competent, but never really feels like anything special.

I wouldn't get the whole bundle. I'd stick with the first game and if you end up falling in love with it then try out ReCOM and KH2.

Only ones I haven't played is the Roxas NDS, DDD and KH3.

Unless you really want to replay the ones you've played in that case, just get 2.8 and 3.

The Roxas game isn't properly ported, it's essentially a cutscene movie giving you a summary of the game.

I actually dropped KH2 because I found the gameplay to be disappointly simple, shallow, railroaded, and "weightless" (in the sense that you don't actually feel connected to the character).

That last part about feeling disconnected is the most important to me personally. I feel like an older sibling is actually playing and they just handed me a disconnected controller so I'd feel involved. ... it's just not kinesthetically fun to engage with.

I've been told a million times to replay it on Proud, but Twilight Town drains so much out of me every time I give the game another shot. I've tried maybe 5 or 6 times over the years.

The last thing is disconnected from the gameplay, but the tone the series takes starting with KH2 is just way too melancholic for me. It's not dark and fucked up enough for me to actually feel anything and it's not silly and lighthearted enough for me turn my brain off and feel like a kid again. Which is weird to say about a video game where you fight alongside Disney characters.

If it's challenge you want, I'd recommend Critical rather than Proud.

But yeah, TT can be rough.

I wanna say KH2's combat has a fair bit of complexity, but learning the ins and outs is optional on every difficulty. Outside of the Final Mix additions, you can generally skate by with just regular attacks and just a couple defensive maneuvers. Some of the mushrooms and data fights practically require very specific strategies, but beyond that, you generally don't need to learn too much about enemies or your own moves. Which is almost a shame cuz there are plenty of fun moves and enemy interactions.

Kingdom Hearts 2 alone is worth it, so

Games are fun, story starts charming and then gets really dumb.

But the gameplay is good

It's not that we don't understand the story. It just became more and more ridiculous as the handheld games went on. But I don't want to get too much into discussing the story since TC hasn't actually played them yet.

first game's the most cohesive experience by far

everything after that is like deviantart-tier OC fanfics, it's such a product of the 00s it hurts

$60 is a great deal for updated versions of 6 full games + 3 "movies" + whatever you want to classify 0.2 as.

Decided not to buy it this time. I'm sure it'll go on sale again. Just got too many games I'm playing right now and don't want to start on this even though I'm a bit interested. Gotta finish some more games.

Good call honestly. You've already played the best game, so if you have other stuff to play, just wait for the next sale.

Im late to this topic but I never miss a chance to talk about KH lol. Youre not wrong, yet.

When we roll around to KH4, hope you know about Union cross, and possibly KH dark road. Youll almost definitely need to know about KH X backcover because of the foretellers, master of masters, and probably the black box.

Dont know what those are? Welp, lets hope KH4 doesnt use plot from it, which it likely will as shown by missing link which looked to be pushing their stories forward (and was likely canceled to show that story in a non-mobile game or a movie or something).

I love KH but the one part thats not overrated in anyway is how batshit the story can be
