Oh is there a self destruct lumina? That would work. Plus I could load him up with on death stuff to immediately cripple the enemies and buff ourselves at the start.

You might not actually get the on death triggers if you survive with 1 hp just keep in mind

Yeah, sometimes in battle if you equip in medias res it sets your max health to half of your out of battle max health and other times it just reduces you to half health. It's quite weird and I have to assume it's just buggy.

for me its not inconsistent. healing always allows me to "unlock" my HP and go back to true max. Maybe there are other triggers which are inconsistent, but healing is a consistent trigger

did some more exploring, i think ive explored most of the world by now... theres probably a few places i didnt fully explore like most dangerous locations, some place called "the crows" etc but I think i got most of the world map.
just beat visages as well so i think ive only got 3 things left to do in the main story? sirine, the paintress, and act 3 which i think is short?

Act 3 is as short as you wanna make it. Lots of side story content that's not necessary but adds a lot to the story/world building.

I beat that snake boss on the map last night. I think it took an hour and I regret my strategy. Since it absorbs all AP ever turn I tried a strategy stacking the combo attack and buff pictos for your basic attack but I don't think that was the play. Most of my damage came from popping Sciel at like 20 moon cards and using Monoco's level 1 gradient while the boss was stunned.

Shield really is invaluable since in practice you can compare it to giving yourself an extra 9999 health per stack or something. In Media Res feels mandatory on the high difficulty setting.

The intended strategy is to give yourself as much AP as possible so it will absorb enough to explode as quickly as possible and do 2 million damage to itself.

Unless you fight it at a point where 2 million is nothing to you, I guess

I'm not so sure... as a result of my basic attacks I actually generated a reasonable amount of AP that was being absorbed anyway but the snake only exploded once during the battle, and doing so only stunned it for one turn. I guess I didn't notice the health depletion from the explosion since I had trouble dodging it and lost a couple party members.

If you just rush the story, Act 3 is extremely short. However you get to fly in the overworld so you can go to all of those floating areas, some of which can pretty long (as well as the non-floating areas you get access to that contains one of the super bosses). You also have the personal quests for each of the party members, which Maelles in particular taking you to a pretty lengthy area.

So act 3 can take a long while if youre trying to do all the side content. Although doing it all before doing the main story part will make the final area + boss very easy, so if you care about keeping it challenging you might want to just do the party member personal quests and then the main story before tackling the rest of the side content.

I just wish act 3 had some more guidance in terms of where I've been and what I can do. I remember bosses I found earlier in the game that were too tough for me at the time and I have no idea how I'd find them now

Yeah, this is my only real issue with the game. I'm not asking for quest markers or anything, but so much of what opens up in act three is way too tough for your level. And without recommended levels or something, the only real way to tell if something is too much is to smash your face into it and die.

beat almost all of sirene. im at the last flag and the boss is just ahead. i guess im now on the final stretch of the game essentially since after this it should just be the paintress and act 3

for act 3 ill probably not do any side content except characters personal quests. im already so powerful right now, i dont want to trivialize the game even further.

i think this game game has the FF16 problem. any time you do any side content ever, you are immediately overpowered and the game never catches up in difficulty

Act 3 has difficulty sliders. I used them heavily to diminish my own power

My 3 mains are Verso, Lune, and Maelle. I pretty much ignored the others half way through Act 2 and only play them if the game makes me.

Using all 5 takes up too much resources. Monaco doesn't really fit in with the group anyway so barely touched him. I wish we could get back their color of luminas and weapon resources.

anyway so let me try and get this straight:

1) there's a real world and a canvas. the canvas is like a simulation essentially
2) the paintress was maelles mother. the curator was maelles dad.
3) everything inside the canvas is just a creation. the only things that arent are aline, renoire (curator), and maelle
4) in the real world, there was a fire or something which scarred maelle. real verso died before the events of the game. aline went into his painting to grieve. renoire wants her to get out. the paintress was just delaying renoire from destroying the canvas essentially, and the number ticking down is aline getting weaker. the gommage is just renoires yearly assault on the canvas, destroying the oldest creations
5) maelle is there to help renoire get aline out. but she also wants to save the canvas because its the last part of real versos soul or something

but then, who was fake versos sister? what are the writers

I googled it since I haven't played in months, but Aline was the one to paint Alicia in the canvas because, 1. to keep her family together in some way and 2. it's believed she painted Alicia with the burn scars because of Aline's unresolved anger towards her.

1: Correct.
2: Correct.
3: Correct. You can learn more about who created what via act 3 quests.
4: Also yes, but to add, the Writers started the fire, tricking Alicia/using her as bait. Verso died saving her.
5: Correct.
6: Fake Verso's sister is just a painted version of Alicia. Aline recreated her family in the canvass to pretend Verso hadn't died in the fire; that the only bad thing was Alicia getting hurt. The details of the Writers isnt explored in the game.

Sorry to hijack your topic, but can anyone tell me where I should go to level up once you get Soarrie stone? I'm going around the map looking for an opportunity to get stronger but most stuff wrecks my shit immediately. I am on Hard, but I think my teams are built reasonably well, it's really a matter of attacks doing me in with 1 or 2 swings so no room for error. But i have high level Pictos equipped and reasonable defense stat investment.

Frozen Hearts, then Dark Shores, then Renoirs Drafts, in that order. Note that the last one is a huge jump from the first two, or at least it was on Expert. Killing all the enemies before they get a turn was easy in the first two places, but not Renoirs Drafts.

But the merchant in Renoirs Drafts is the best grinding spot in the game if you get Maelle to the point she can one shot them (pretty easy to do if you lower it to Story for grinding them back up to whatever difficulty you use when done grinding).

On topic, once you get Joyaro and the right luminas to have him start with 9 AP, hes great.

Its not mandatory as I did Expert and resolved to take zero damage through the whole game, which I did, but I did get lazy and spouse In Media Res when I finally got it toward the end of act 3.

For the snake, it depends on how much of a fight you want to have. For any boss in the game, Maelle can one-shot it if you want to. I thought that made things a little too easy, so I beat on it until I got a full 3 Gradient bar then one-shot it with Gommage. Energy Master is one of the best luminas to equip though. Put that and Energising Turn and Energising Start I and Energising Stsrt II on everyone, you should have max AP most of the time.
