Ottawa's annual Pride parade was cancelled on Sunday after it was halted by a local pro-Palestinian advocacy group that blocked the road and demanded to negotiate with organizers.
The group Queers for Palestine Ottawa (Q4P) halted the parade "with the permission" of the grand marshal, the organization said in a press release issued Sunday afternoon just as the parade was stopped.

Seems like it was a ways along before being halted, then there was some confusion for a couple hours before cancelling entirely.

"My issue takes priority", basically:

Q4P issued several demands for the organizers, Capital Pride, including that the group hold a "boycott, divestment and sanctions" hall and commit to an ongoing cultural and academic boycott of Israel.

No but this particular protest group seems to want to stop the violence and genocide regardless which is commendable.

The event organizers for the Pride event pulled a Target on Palestine. They used to be super pro-Palestine and spoke out against the genocide until some Zionist group pressured them to walk it back. The protestors were upset about that.

Is this the ouroboros of the lgbt community imploding on itself? Trying to fight every fight, only to end out hurting your own community.

I hope its not, but could see this escalating in the community scenes over there. Here's hoping for the best. Its Canada, so they might become friends in the end!

This feels like a sort of left-wing thing in general, in that a lot of the time there are people who expect anything on that side to simultaneously and actively support everything else on that side. Personally I think it's kinda message-diluting when you do this too much but meh

For what it's worth, the event itself mostly just continued as normal it's only really the official parade part of it that got stopped. lots of people still walked "parades" of a sort in an unofficial capacity and the parties/events/other gatherings mostly just still happened normally

People with physical disability accomodations weren't able to reach them due to arranging for them to meet at the end of the parade :/

I'm sure this can all be worked out.
