WASHINGTON President Donald Trump plans to sign executive orders Monday aimed at eliminating cashless bail for suspects arrested in Washington, D.C., and in other jurisdictions around the nation that have similar policies, according to fact sheets describing the executive orders that the White House provided to NBC News.

The executive order on D.C. directs the administration to take certain actions if the city does not change its cashless bail policy, including "federal funding decisions, services, or approvals," according to the fact sheet. Attorney General Pam Bondi, too, could get involved, though the fact sheet did not detail what actions she might take.

The executive order aimed at other cities across the nation will direct the administration to find federal funds that could be "suspended or terminated" in jurisdictions that have cashless bail policies, the fact sheet said.

A spokesperson for Mayor Muriel Bowsers office declined to comment to NBC News.

Trump will sign another executive order on Monday aiming at prosecuting people who "desecrate" the American flag, a third fact sheet said. That order directs Bondi to "vigorously prosecute those who violate our laws in ways that involve desecrating the flag, and to pursue litigation to clarify the scope of First Amendment in this area."

Trump taking a dump on poor people and telling them to like it Month 8 out of 48.

Also, "Crimes that involve desecrating the flag?" First amendment much?

Look she's directed to "clarify" the scope of the first amendment in this area to not include flag desecration. Pay no mind to our rights slipping away.

Indeed. Flag Desecration has been explicitly held to be protected under the First Amendment in Texas v. Johnson (1989) and affirmed in United States v. Eichman (1990), cases I know Bondi is aware of because we went to the same law school where this whole issue was taught.

It's cute how this is coming out right after his judgment was tossed out under the 8th because apparently holding the rich accountable in proportion to their gains is wrong

Okay, if cashless bail isn't allowed then set the bail amount at one cent. Or is the EO going to establish minimum bail amounts?

Such a stupid decision, too. "Well, this would've been excessive in 1852, Sooooo..."

As though "excessive" shouldn't scale with the time and individual.

Legal system needs a complete re write to modernize.

But if Republicans are going to keep destroying the Constitution they need old bullshit to find a "new interpretation".

wouldn't most bails be established under local or, at most, state level?

For people pending federal charges, I could see this being ostensibly allowed. Don't agree that it should, but still.

Remember when the GOP and Fox News went crazy when President Obama wrote a few Executive Orders because the GOP in Congress had standing instructions not to compromise in any way? There was a period of time when they screamed about him governing by Executive Order and destroying the Constitution daily.

I remember it. But of course now Trump is actually actively destroying the separation of powers and it is crickets and/or active cheering from all the same people. Because every member of the GOP and everyone who supports them is a complete hypocrite.

The point of getting rid of cashless bail is to force convictions. Jail exists to get poor people to plead guilty because jails are generally kept to a much worse standard than prisons. They hold over your head that you'll be released from jail if you plead guilty

Yeah, I remember the right flipping their shit about Biden ruling by executive order. One of my friends on FB was crying about it. I pointed out Donnie had done more in the time that Biden had been in office at the time and it quickly turned to not the amount but what they were that was the problem. I asked him which ones specifically and never got a response, because, you know, they're all fucking stupid ass rage monsters.

How about we eliminate paid bail at all. No amount of money should be a get-out-of-jail card. I am tired of rich assholes having money and being able to pay bail.

Over the last few years, a lot of reform-minded changes to the criminal justice system, like not prosecuting minor offenses, have seen backlash. But we shouldn't go back on cashless bail. That policy has overwhelmingly worked.

The vast majority of people we release on bond come back.

My point is, the poor already can't afford it. But the rich can pay bail easily. To me, the idea of even allowing to pay bail is a get-out-of-jail-free card when you have millions of dollars and the bail is only thousands. Most poor can't afford bail anyways. Just gut it and make the rich suffer like the rest of us who can't.

I mean that is what it is. Monetary punishment in general if it's not based on the person's wealth is basically only a punishment for the poor.
