Why cosplay as Hunk out of all of Resident Evil characters? He's only a minigame character, who first debuted in the original Resident Evil 2's minigame. He's never had a significance to the series's plot, and the main single player campaigns whatsoever.

I bet it's because he's a faceless character. Hidden under a mask, and dressed in a black, soldier's uniform. That young kid's think it looks so cool to wear at a Con event.

This isn't the worst fuck up British cops have done. Around 20 years ago, London police killed a guy who was running to catch a subway train in the London Underground. It was just a few days after a terrorist attack considered the UK's 9/11, and the cops were jumping at every shadow. They saw a guy running and freaked out. Turns out he was innocent but they didn't find that out until after they had shot him

You just don't do that in the UK.

No one cares to find out if it's a toy or if you are a cosplayer. You walk around with something that even looks like a gun, and there will be an armed response unit on you in minutes.

He's a fucking idiot. A very lucky fucking idiot.

Yeah, that was a disgrace. They didn't just shoot him as he was running either, they obliterated him when he was down too.

Luckily, fatal police shootings are very rare. The average is 3 per year.

Maybe its because he enjoys cosplaying as Hunk?

Is costume shaming something that actually happens at these events?

The fact the gun had a blaze orange tip is the only thing that makes this stupid. IDK what the law is in the UK but in the US that's a pretty universal signifier that the gun is just a toy.

Aside from that, the suspicion was fair. You can't expect everyone to know it's a video game character.

Orange tips don't automatically dismiss the gun isn't real. I've seen photos of rifles that were painted like Nerf guns. Criminals can brandish them so lawyers can potentially use the toy gun angle as a defense.

No, him not dressing up in tactical gear and carrying a replica firearm should have prevented the arrest. He did a stupid thing and ended up facing a stupid consequence. No sympathy whatsoever.

A victim of what, exactly? He was arrested, not sent to prison.

Even if you feel like hes totally innocent (and I wouldnt agree with you there), innocent people do get arrested and its not a failure of the system. An arrest and a conviction are very different things.

What is he a victim of?

It's illegal to carry an imitation firearm in public (with certain exceptions like obvious toys, and filming). People mention the orange tip, but that's a US law and people in the UK know nothing about that.

Youre arguing with somebody who has been arrested in the country this took place in and who has also arrested a number of people in the country this took place in.

If theres evidence to suggest the arrest was mishandled or that he was mistreated while in custody, thats a different issue. But an arrest itself? Really not a big deal.

Why shouldn't he have been arrested? The police had reasonable grounds to suspect he broke the law.

It's illegal to carry even replica guns in public without a good reason.

If there's no conviction, it's catch and release. Depending on where you live in the US, it doesn't even show up on a background check.

Edit: I know this incident isn't in the US, just providing a local example for why arrests aren't as serious as people may believe them to be.

In the UK, you can literally de-arrest somebody without even taking them to the station. Ive done it myself a couple of times. And yes, as somebody who works in a field with very stringent background checks, arrests dont factor into them at all.

The thing about arrests not showing up on background checks isn't completely true.

They won't show up on standard checks, but they can be disclosed if they are relevant on the enhanced check that you need for certain jobs (like working with kids, or for the police or security services).

As somebody who works with kids and has been arrested, its never been an issue.

The bit that employers check is convictions. I have, only once, been asked about an arrest prior to starting, and it was something that was explained with one sentence.

I've also been arrested and worked in education (had the enhanced DBS check).

It's never going to be an issue unless you have a history of arrests for things that should be a red flag anyway.
