For $1000, the design of this thing is terrible. I do not like the open floor look they went for at all.

Lego price defenders are insane; these sets are way too expensive. Look at something similar like a Gundam Model kit and see what you get for a similar price to a Lego set. You can build a $100 lego set in a couple hours but you can get cool, elaborate snap together plastic models that have a much longer build time for the same price.

Again this isn't any more expensive than any other STAR WARS lego products.

Price per piece on the 5 most expensive Star Wars lego sets currently on Legos site.

* Death Star 11 cents per piece
* Millennium Falcon 11cents per piece
* Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser 12 cents per piece
* The Razor Crest 10 cents per piece
* Jabbas Sail Barge 13 cents per piece

This just seems worse than it actually is. It's just that they've never offered a Star Wars product with this many pieces before. I get it a thousand dollars is a lot of money.
most things have a bulk discount though

usually when you buy 9000 of a thing you pay less than if you buy 10 of a thing

plus these huge sets usually have an insane amount of tiny parts that skews the count

I was wondering whether or not this was their first $1,000 set; I just started getting Legos again a few years ago and missed most of the 00's and 10's sets.

Anyway, yeah, people have been bitching about the price of Legos for as long as I've been alive, so that's basically white noise at this point. However, SW Legos do have some pretty egregious markups even compared to other licensed sets - I think the recent Yavin base set was the worst offender in terms of pricetag v. brick count - and this isn't much of an exception. SW sets have also caught a lot of flak lately for being...uninspired, to put it politely (to put in rudely, they're basic-ass gray backdrops with a couple exclusive minifigs for 50 bucks a pop).

So yeah, I've pretty much sworn off SW sets since I got back into Lego. The last one I had my eye on was the Mos Eisley Cantina, but the wave of price hikes a couple years ago killed my interest in that one.

Don't make me tap the "Lego has always been expensive" sign.

Although this set is still kinda bullshit. I don't care about it not being a full sphere or whatever, but I don't see where the 9000 bricks have gone. It doesn't look like $1000 of stuff.

There are lots of very expensive non-star wars sets

the Titanic is $680

Youll note it also has more parts than the new Death Star btw

I love me some Star Wars Lego, but I'm going to pass on this. I'd rather get the Venator before this, but haven't pulled the trigger yet because of the price. I probably will before it retires, though.

This. Lego has actually been shockingly consistent with their pricing. There just happen to be many more pieces this time around.

Do people think the price of a product should be based on the amount of individual pieces of said product for anything other than LEGO and defend such practices?

I don't really think so, but I guess I could be wrong.

This was a slog for me to finish as its very repetitive but it does look damn good. My faves so far have been.

https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/gringotts-wizarding-bank-collectors-edition-76417

https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/eiffel-tower-10307

The tower was repetitive but the overall look is very pleasing to me. Oh and the crane.

Nowhere near big or detailed enough to merit a $1000 price. Half that would be reasonable.

I don't really think so, but I guess I could be wrong.

Even if they did, 11 or 12 cents per block is absolute nonsense given you're talking about a mass-produced piece of plastic that probably costs under a cent to manufacture.

Is it my imagination, or has the design quality of lego sets been going down? I remember the ones from my youth being way cooler.

I feel like the abundance of very specific pieces may have cost Lego some of its soul.

Being able to build around the limitations of square blocks could create some fun ingenuity but now you just have pieces that do something that's unique to the models they ship with and don't really go anywhere else.

I kind of disagree with this because you end up seeing all these specialized units in creative ways elsewhere

great example is the botanicals line which repurpose all kinds of unique parts into parts of flowers
