not only that but doing anything results in either death, jail or sent to a camp on the other side of the world. the modern world has already left us behind and what really stings is that people were warned, people knew what this was gonna be and STILL voted for it

Germany had a population of around 80 million people when the nazis rose to power. I don't believe for a second that they all just woke up one morning and had a bloodlust for putting jewish people in gas chambers. I do think they were easily manipulated by the people who did have that bloodlust, though.

At the moment we (the brits) are dealing with a strangely rapid rising anti-immigrant sentiment that is infecting all of our parents from facebook and twitter, as well as our supposedly left wing goverment deciding that "boat people" is the core issue they want to campaign on.

He was always a military American nationalist back on the Politics board who was constantly taking jabs at other nations (usually Asian ones) to prop the US up and now that the country is the state that it's in, he's constantly looking for non-majority groups to blame in order to deflect responsibility from the majority that put it that way.

Turns out, Americans aren't really that concerned with "freedom". Too many shows on streaming to catch up on.

I only have to drive to the next town to see all the flags hung from lampposts by racists obeying orders from Britain First to know it's not just an American issue.

What I want to do and what I'm capable of doing are sadly two different things.

Everyone's got the potential to contribute. Want to pitch in when/if things pop off? Get your ham license, start learning whatever you can. When phones are surveillance devices and online platforms are compromised, we're going to need communications. You could also start learning Meshtastic, but the bar of entry's a little higher-- or so I've heard.

I would argue social media helped the right in elections. The right had more money to spend. Ergo commercial media and social mefia favored them.

How hard is that to figure out?

Social media is literally why the right is growing. Because we've allowed unfettered bullshit to be spread on it because the people in charge of it want the money that comes with rightwing governments.

Looks like when "nazis and slavery" were on the ballot the people most vulnerable to it voted for it cause they really really hated trans people. Better to be a slave than to allow some transgirl somewhere to play soccer, I guess.

Best way to put it. Everyone during Nazi germany heard of the camps, but didnt understand the scale of what was happening plus propaganda shifted eyes away from it.

social media makes these kinda things harder to do slightly, but sadly also serve as a powerful propaganda engine as well. So sadly, we likely arent better off

it's the primary reason. Democrats have no real answer to this. The alt-right have been influencing social media for years. Youtube is infested with it and the algo sends people to it.
