Not trying to attack you, but more evidence towards my theory that you're a prude.

That said, I generally avoid romances in RPGs unless I'm specifically playing for that purpose. More RPGs should give the player the choice to avoid romance without punishment.

that's definitely an attack in what way has prude ever been used respectably

I actually prefer it. I don't care for gratuitous fan service, but it actually annoys me if there's zero chance for romance. The RPGs that are really bad with this are Nihon Falcom's games like the Legends of Heroes series and Ys. Characters are clearly flirting with the MC, but nothing ever comes of it
Trails is annoying with this because you can choose with Lloyd/Rean but since it's a long-running story it can't really get past whichever game is the last that reads your save file from the choice you made

Why do you feel the need to make that assessment? I am pretty sexually active and sex positive would you just outright call me a whore or something? I dont see why youd just feel the need to label someone a prude and repeatedly chase them around and confront them with it.

Everyone involved has pointed out that it is an insult, nothing about the relative scale of offense.

Unless we're gonna pretend prude isn't an insult?

I don't mean it as a value judgement. Some people like chocolate, some people can't be in the same room with ice cream. I just don't like when prudes try to force their preferences on others.

Never in Three Houses though. Nobody deserves to be married to Byleth. Except maybe Caspar. But I kill Caspar every playthrough.

Not even Rhea? lol

But yeah, I find myself engaging less and less with the mechanic over time but kind of force myself to because of trophies/achievements and other little bonuses. Three Houses is a good example because, to me, Byleth was a teacher for the majority of the cast so it felt kind of odd and a little groom-y to romance any of the student characters.

In so many games, it also doesn't help that the romance is more of a "reward" than natural growth. You'll go through a character's storyline and then be given a single option to date them at the end, and then you'll get like one scene before it's business as usual.

Clair Obscur is the most recent game with romance I played and I didn't end up going with anyone because it didn't feel natural.

One romance in games I like is with Liara from the Mass Effect series because it does feel more natural and personal for the characters. You can romance her in the first game and carry that all the way to the end of the third.

I typically don't, but I'll usually end up looking at the list about 50-70% of the way through.

If I see something that actually sounds fun to try or if I realize I'm like <5 from being done, then I'll go for it, but otherwise I'm not super concerned.

I struggle to think of any game I've played that had romance options, unless you count stuff like the Golden Saucer date in FF7. I've never cared much for romance subplots. To me it just seems weird that people are more concerned about who's hooking up with who when we're busy trying to save the world.

in terms of sex drives, there are those with "go" libidos and those with "stop" libidos. some people engage in sex primarily when they are in a low stress environment. they need to be comfortable. whereas some other people will be able to engage in sex while very highly stressed, because it is an unwinding mechanism. we call these people submissive bottoms
