My kindergartener and his classmates and friends all wanna be Astro Bot for Halloween. Easily a dozen kids just in my little slice of the world so I gotta imagine there's prob a few more worldwide. At least 50 kids I'd bet.

Sony would make bank licensing it but the only one I can find is this shady ass website that's 100% prob doing the identity thefts or some shit. Doesn't look legit. Thought about making one but I'm lazy and a horrible dad

i haven't exactly looked for it to be fair, but i also don't think i've ever really seen anything in the way of astrobot merchandising. seems like a really weird missed opportunity given its popularity.

While they haven't been saying "you guys don't really want finite single-player games" as explicitly as they were in the late 00's/early 10's, many publishers (Sony included) are still very much trying to push live services and multiplayer games over games like Astro Bot. Merchandise would almost certainly sell (though where the game's popularity was a bit of a surprise to them, they didn't have that merchandise ready for launch and therefore missed the optimal window for selling it), but that would constitute investment into an IP that they don't really want to remain super-popular, since that creates demand for a type of game they don't want to make (which in turn generates ill will when they don't meet that demand).

Basically, Sony doesn't want Astro Bot to be popular. They don't want series where they tell investors "we spent $10 million on the previous game and made $40 million in sales, so we're looking to invest $10 million in another one," they want series where they say "the previous entry is making us $20 million a month in recurring revenue, and we're looking to invest in another game that will also do that." They don't want to make games that just sell well before everyone moves on. They want games that people play forever so they can keep extracting money from them.

You could sell costumes of Astro Bot and then sell costumes for the Astro Bot to wear, like in the game.

Infinite money hack.

I question your age. Sony has never once licensed costumes, not even for their movies that make hundreds of millions more than a video game.

A rock? In this housing market? You're lucky to find a perforated leaf for less than $2k/month.
