I played only Gens 1, 2, and 5. I watched a lot of Gen 9 battles however. I typically have a blurred vision of Pokemon in gens 3-4 and 6-8, however I kind of can tell most Gen 7s and it kinda helps when I do know a pokemon not in that gen is older or newer.

So for me, I'd say funny enough, I get a lot of Pokemon in Gens 3 and 4 confused and it makes playing games like Pokedoku a complete mess for me.

In regards to names I can probably name every mon up through Gen 4. Gen 5 is where names start to get fuzzy.

7 onwards. Only played Sun once and Shield twice. I could probably identify most of them as the gen they are from but naming would definitely be worse than the other gens.

I'm pretty confident I can remember every pokemon, names sometimes take a minute but that's all words anymore.

Try those Sporcle quizzes. Even for longtime fans, they get really challenging come Sword and Shield.

Every generation.

I get a lot of Gen 5 Pokemon confused as being from 6 or 7 since I skipped Black & White.

4, 6, and 8. I skipped those gens (or only played remakes/legends in them). But I also forget about some of the guys from the games I have played too if they aren't super prevalent in them.

gen 3 is when i start forgetting pokemon names. even w/ pics as a reference i prob couldnt name all of gen 3. gen 1/2 i can prob name most of them w/o any pictures

None... Because instead of remembering important shit like math or science, my brain decided to use all that space to remember all 1025 Pokemon and their various forms...

After the first 2 is where it starts getting blurry. I can remember a handful of Pokemon from the 3rd gen just off the top of my head (and could probably name most of them with pictures) but if you asked me to name any from the 4th I wouldn't know what to say. Those early days were the times I was most involved with the games, multiple playthroughs including all the spin-offs and watching the shows and movies.

Starting from 3 it was more hit the credits and wait for the next one and I fell off the anime and movies somewhere during Johto's run I think. Pokemon 2000 was maybe the last movie I watched while it was still relevant though I can't even remember if I saw it when it came out or just on TV some day.

I was never into pokemon so the only ones I know, I learned via osmosis. Mostly from smash.

Anything after Gen 5. Sometimes even Gen 5.

Everything from 6 onward, which coincidentally is where the games started to dive in postgame quality and didn't really keep me invested for as long.

Anything past 7.

Never played gen 4 and 5 and my brain consistenty confuse the pokemon from one of them as belonging to the other. Quite troubling when playing PokeDoku.

Also never played gen 7 or 8. Gen 7 pokemon mean nothing to me, but even though I didn't play it, gen 8 ones have kind of made a lasting impression on me.
