If you have a previous gen console... probably not. There's only a handful of exclusives and you're basically just paying for your games to run a bit better. If you don't though, yeah sure.

I'm a console person and prefer it to playing games at my PC, but I prefer my switch (now 2) to it. Though I did play the shit out of Oblivion and it was hilarious fun.

I always say if the price is reasonable to you and you can think of 5 games you want to play on it, go for it.

I know that PC gaming is better, especially since PlayStation exclusives are eventually ported to it these days, but as someone who prefers console, I think that the PS5 is really good.

I bought mine in early 2023, I think, and it has ended up being one of my favorite consoles.

If you want to play Spiderman 2, Horizon Forbidden West, GoW Ragnarok, Astrobot, Ghost of Yotei, and you don't have good PC, then yea I'd say it's worth it.

Yep. I'll be on borderlands 4 with the boys tomorrow, legends of heroes trials in the sky chapter 1 like next week, silent hill f the week after that, ghost of yotei, tormented souls 2, tales of xillia remaster, dragon quest 1-2 2D-HD, that digimon jrpg, etc. etc. as they come out. I already didn't care about playing modern games on my PC with the PS5 alone, but the PS5 pro made me especially not care about bothering with modern games on the PC.

fwiw, the difficulty has been exaggerated by marketing and elitist sweatbros who hinge their ego on video games. im not gonna like, sell you on it. but if some of these youtube reviewers can beat em, i believe most can. Noah Caldwell comes to mind (shameless channel plug)

Feels like not a good time to buy one. Also kicking myself for not just buying it earlier

A new PS5 isn't coming out no time soon. It wouldn't even make sense to do so at this moment since they are just now barely passing the halfway mark of PSN players playing on more PS5s compared to PS4s.

When it comes to the console stock the older ones is still at the original price, but once those are gone then the newer jacked-up price PS5s is going to replace them. A used and refurbished original model disc PS5 is currently 449.99 (or 427.49 with a pro membership). Once all those is gone the price risen 499.99 digital slim PS5s and 549.99 disc slim PS5s is going to be whats left.

And yeah PS5s in EU regions is about to get a SSD space nerf for the exact same price they cost over there now, so if you want to get one you better go ahead and move on it.

If you don't want to deal with building and owning a PC and want something that'll work exactly as prescribed right out of the box, the PS5 is probably the best console you can get.

Depends on what you have already. If you have a PC, certainly not unless one or two still exclusive games or not being able to wait a couple years for exclusives to come to PC is worth the price of entry to you.

If you have a PS4 and are happy with it, kinda the same honestly.

I like my base OG model PS5, but at the same time I missed the PS4 Pro so my PS5 is basically a "does everything" console (4K bluray player, PS4 Pro, and modern console for the extremely few modern games I consider worth it).

The exclusives and former-exclusives were a mixed bag and not worth the price of admission IMO (I enjoyed a few of them, absolutely despised one, but none tick that "holy shit you just have to play this game" killer app box). But as a general "video game box" machine it's aight and I'm not going to pretend I regret my purchase or anything (I wouldn't consider it worth the price they ask for it nowadays though.)

Yeah it's easily the best console I've ever had, when you consider cost, features, performance, and ease of use.

if you want it for your ps4 compatibility and to experience higher res games that where enhanced for the ps5, I would say it worth it. Especially if youre coming back from the ps4 and you were accustomed to seeing most games run at 30fps/choppy frame rates or graphics barely at 1080p. Like I think the ps5 will wow you in that regard since many of those games can be outputted to high resolutions and at mostly 60fps than what the ps4 ever could, and probably the most noticeable thing about the ps5 is that it has a upgraded fan system theyre a lot more quiet than the ps4.

the biggest cons for the ps5 imo are:
-playstation subscription is always gonna be in your face, especially if the games you play have some network functionality to it
-outside of ps4 backwards compatibility, thats all youre getting. Everything else like ps1,ps2, psp is either tied to to higher tiers of the PlayStation subscription or theres only about a handful of said games that could be bought digitally
-also ps5 controllers are prone to getting stick drift perhaps the same was true for ps4 controllers but its something Sony never addressed other than them wanting you to to buy their more expensive controller that comes with removable joysticks again not fixing the issue but leaving you to eventually buy a new analog stick
-lack of media support outside of streaming. Basically if you want to watch movies, listen to music youre gonna have to use the downloadable apps catered to the ps5. CDs, DVDs wont work, USB thumb drives cant be that powerful

It depends on where you ultimately fall with console gaming. I have been primarily a console gamer my entire life going back to Atari so for me Playstation has been my primary main console since the PS1. I personally really like the PS5.

A lot of the main complaints are lack of exclusives which is kind of funny since most of gamefaqs has always been against exclusives the whole time. So if you already had say an xbox series x it probably wouldn't be worth it. We are in a new era with consoles going forward and the days of new consoles meaning a new lineup of games is over. We are much more PC like in that it is the same general pool of games they just run better on ps5 than they did on ps4 and sometimes offer graphical enhancements. The same will be true someday when ps6 launches. Same pool of games just better options than on ps5.

I think a ps5 is totally worth it but I'm not a PC guy nor an xbox guy. So Playstation is my main way of gaming and I use it for all games except those specifically exclusive to Switch.

Ive always wanted everything multi-platform so I wouldnt have to bother with anything but PC.

Consoles having exclusives is the only reason Ill ever buy one, but Id rather they just didnt have them so I wont have to buy them.

I'm ok with people who don't want exclusives to exist but I think it is disingenuous when they start to go away and then that is used as a reason to criticize the system and talk down about it for not existing.

Is the Slim Disc version worth $479 new?

For some reason the Exchanges aren't selling the Pro at all but the Slim versions are $479

idk, I basically bought one just for Gran Turismo 7 about 5 weeks ago and that game has been fun. But I finished the main single player stuff a few days ago and it's been a bit less fun since then. I like doing actual races, and the only single player stuff I have left to do is license golds and time trials. I've done some online races, but they mostly haven't been what I would call fun.

I wish the ps+ classic library had more stuff than just sony published titles, they could easily pay for some licenses and put up a huge amount of games for people to buy.

I won't play FPS games without a kb/m setup, so if I could figure that out for the PS5 I might buy more games
