I don't think Joker is as complex as people make him out to be. He's fascinating on the outside, but does not appear to have that rich of an inner life.

Not compared to a character like Magneto.

Zuko is my favorite of those listed but I think Magneto is probably the best developed despite the snarl of continuity that comic books are renowned for.

Joker is pretty fascinating imo. He's Batman. They're both equally insane, driven, and talented, Batman just happened to have love and resources growing up and Joker didn't.

Joker does not have any depth and that's the great thing about him. He just likes destruction but people keep trying to rationalize, even justify why he's the way he is.

I think The Killing Joke had the best interpretation. It's boring if he's just 'crazy'. He's clearly not. His intention is to prove that chaos/craziness is a factor everyone should be aware of.

A truly chaotic person wouldn't predictably choose the route of "violent chaos" every time. They'd do other shit.
