Somebody pointed this out to me a little while ago, and I had never thought of it but it totally counts (or at least should) and it's totally the best: When the relationship between the two characters is a given, but instead of just being a background detail (eg, you never see the wife or she just gets captured or killed or whatever), they work together over the course of the story and are stronger because of it. The Incredibles is probably the best example I can think of. Someone above mentioned Uncharted.
