I am currently investigating the 2nd murder. I've investigated the gym, magic lab, and am currently investigating the prisoner's shower room. The mechanism behind how the murder actually happened are obvious beyond not knowing how Ryoma's body was raised to the gym window in the pool (I assume a ladder but haven't investigated the pool yet so idk if there is one). Ryoma was cuffed in his shower room, pushed into the pool where he drowned, the culprit took his body and put it in the piranha tank. The secondary glass pane was put in the piranha tank to separate Ryoma's body from the fish before the trapdoor was released during the magic show.

I haven't done an accounting of alibis to really bother to know who was where and when, but given that the gym window was used, and Ryoma was likely pushed into the pool past 10PM, the gym being locked at nighttime isn't much of an issue?

It better not be Miu because I fucking love Miu. Without doing much consideration of timing etc., my shitty as-of-now guess is that Kokichi made a 'Request' of Kirumi, who was basically bound to serve because she's a hardcore submissive, which she then followed to her own detriment because Danganronpa logic.

update: i have now found the tennis net cable so my theory is slightly modified to drowning in the shower room sink (with a struggle, while cuffed) and the body was hoisted across the pool area window to window with the cable.

which means the culprit must have put the glass insert into the piranha tank between 9-10pm. this may shatter my kokichi-kirumi theory. so someone else went into the gym between 9 and 10 and i think the only people i can really consider are maki, kaito, and miu?

i really don't want it to be kaito - not because i like him or anything but because the 'the murderer gets increased story relevance just before they commit and get caught for murder' is a lame trope and makes things feel predictable.

but also i seriously doubt it's maki and IT BETTER NOT BE MIU

i don't really have a specific idea for the black fabric in the pool but i think it makes sense that ryoma's body was moved across above the pool through the inner tube and then when the tennis cable was... somehow (i can't explain how it could have been severed from the gym side to be reeled back in tbh) the inner tube on its rope slid off and into the pool

i don't think ryoma's body in the inner tube in the pool actually makes much sense since the killer would have the same issue getting ryoma's body from the pool as they did getting the inner tube out (i.e. why the inner tube had been left in the pool in the first place)

kaito actually becomes less likely to be the murderer at this point because he wasn't at the magic show and easily could have gone to clean up the evidence in the pool while he was AWOL there. same goes for Maki.

and i can see how that would have been the aim with miu, problem is she just shatters every female character trope to just be hilarious. if her character had been written as a dude they'd just be toxic. but a good looking chick talking about shit that's only halfway out is fantastic

Do you happen to remember who you thought was the culprit of Case 1? I guessed Shuichi, which ended up being close but not quite.

I also guessed Miu for Case 2! I will not comment as to the closeness of that one however.

according to my save file i played case 1 in august 2022 so uh

all i remember is kaede being literally the last person i guessed because i just never remotely considered the detective would be the killer

I haven't started the trial yet but Miu seems the most logical from the perspective of 'she was just unaccounted for the entire time' but something just seems off about the whole thing. There's so much evidence pertaining to everyone else's specific timing, but Miu's only relevance is for seeing Ryoma at 7:30PM. She also wasn't involved in any of the setup for the magic show so it would be weird for her to be aware of what tools could actually be used in respect of using the magic show as a means for murder. I'm just so in denial. It'd be too easy, and Danganronpa loves convolution.

I'm kind of circling back to Kirumi/Kokichi here. Kokichi's the one who's given an alibi for he and Kirumi that's usable in evidence but we never got Kirumi's account. I think the purpose for this is that Kirumi's timeline is going to come up at some point and we're going to use Kukichi's words against her. Even if it DEFIES REASONABLENESS I'm going to lock in Kirumi at Kokichi's request as my culprit for this murder because I will not slander Miu like this.

If I'm wrong, I will be all the better for it.

it has occurred to me that it being at kokichi's request would be weird because if kirumi got away with the murder then he would die. he could just be like 'bruh she did it' at the trial.

but that man is an agent of chaos so i stand by my guess

but kirumi's alibi seems to have been validated without question or issue so it's down to maki and kaito

i maintain my prior statement about it being kind of lame if it's kaito - far too unconvoluted and predictable for the danganronpa way. 'only character whose motive video we've seen turns out to be murderer' okay

kokichi is kind of a piece of shit but quite frankly extremely well written

everyone's reactions to kaito declaring he and maki are both innocent are fantastic. the shit talking this game is so much better than 1 or 2

DR1's cast had a problem where the characters themselves kinda suck, but they do operate well together.

DR2's cast had a problem where the characters were really unique and fun, but it was only Chiaki/Nagito/Hajime pulling everything together.

DRV3's cast does a much better job of both having fun characters and having them be cohesive.

INTERMISSION

Maki has now stated that she saw Ryoma at night. This brings the timeline back to nighttime and eliminates Kirumi's alibi. 5 minutes was enough to set up the glass panel.

I guess it could also have been Kokichi between 10 and 11 but I also don't want him to be the culprit because he's too saucy. HOWEVER if the motive videos are at all relevant here, he becomes the likely suspect since he had them all in his possession.

Kokichi > Kirumi suspex but also Miu's alibi has been shot.

But was Maki actually telling the truth?!

yeah this seems more like a proper ensemble as opposed to distinct characters interacting, a lot more riffing and playful interaction
