He's saying it wouldn't be dangerous if he went with you but he's not so you'll need a sword.

If I take it he shoots me and says it was an armed home invasion, and he was just standing his ground.

If he doesnt shoot me I tell him its dangerous to give weapons to home invaders.

Wooden swords might sound weak, but you haven't considered that you can set it on fire.
