There should be changes not only to qualifications but the amount of power the president has without congressional approval. Kind of doubtful it'll happen.

Felons will become more than welcome. Trump has already broken that barrier.

If the Republican party had principles, they would have recognized how dangerous he was and stopped him. We expect everyone to act on good faith. Republicans are no longer acting on good faith and are in an "we must win at any cost" mentality. They won't police their own. They won't hold themselves accountable. It seems like nobody forsaw things becoming this way and came up with safeguards to prevent it.

Yes, they'll require you to be Republican.

To be fair, at the time I think it was a reasonable expectation that the American people wouldn't enable a wannabe king considering the circumstances that brought forth the Constitution to begin with.

We just had a Democrat president who could have pressed charges against Trump for so many valid crimes, including an insurrection attempt and theft of top secret documents. He could have expanded the Supreme Court to correct the GOP majority. He could have prevented Trump from running due to treasonous acts. He could have kept his word and not run for a second term so a stronger candidate could take Trump on for his second run. He literally had a blank check from the Supreme Court's earlier ruling during Trump's first term to do whatever he wants and pass any laws he wants.

How many of those things did he actually do?

They didn't break any rules in getting Trump running either time. I'm not saying they wouldn't try of course. The problem was the expectation that people wouldn't elect a literal felon but due to the media a large portion of our country think that's all lies by some secret cabal.

The rules will be you have to be in the Trump bloodline.

The deck will be stacked against democrats ever getting into office again. The rules will always be in Republicans favor. Not to mention a possible assassination if they are winning.

They always have been because of the way voting works in this country.

Presidential candidates should require a televised physical, mental evaluation, IQ test and a civics test, as well as have to recite the Constitution in full.

Do you really think they would change the laws to give the President the power Trump has if theu ever expected a Democrat to ever be President again? Best bet is they hold a heavily rigged election and Vance or some other right wing stooge gets in. Worst case there is no election. Trump himself floated this idea a few months back. If the country is at war he can suspend elections.

That's not a hypothetical situation, though. We literally had that under Biden and they did absolutely nothing to prevent or correct any of this, so why should we assume it would be different?

As long as the Democratic party heads still act like politics is still like it was in the previous century, Republicans will continue to get away with everything. The establishment class is still too soft on Republicans and they get in the way of Democrats who want to get things done.

Thing is that its not upto them to decide. Its the people that empowered such a person.

Now the party affliated with the president will ride the momentum until their supporters say otherwise. So the next candidate will be similar to the current president. The support for such a candidate will determine who will be the next president.

Id say nonvoters had their shares of biden admin & trump admin. The contrasts of how close the next candidates will be brought to the voter. Theyll probably vote against both next time, maybe vote harder against one than the other.

Some folks like the changes believe it or not. Give it some time though and maybe their tune about the country will change. These drastic changes arent immediately seen but some day, the changes will settle and its going to hit them harder than the initial responses from these changes

Assuming we get a Democrat trifecta somehow the most I'd expect is drivel about healing followed by no apparent effort to fix anything (or efforts that are stymied by the same gentleman's agreements Republicans ignore outright)

If Republicans get another go after Trump's term (assuming he even leaves), I expect them to try to outlaw registering as a democrat
