Damn I was gonna make the review zone topic last night but I didn't feel like it

I've played the original a lot as a kid and even did 2 SCCs, some of the few challenge runs I've done in any game. At one point I think I can list off JP costs for all the skills as well as which enemies you faced in story battles.

Kinda on the fence for whether I wanna buy this and do another playthrough of this, honestly. I'm curious about the hard difficulty mode and whether that makes gameplay interesting enough to play through again.

I also haven't done a playthrough with the WoL stuff, so kinda sad the extra classes aren't included.

That is one challenge I am never doing again ever. Not without QOL updates at least. I love the game, but it is very slow. Im hoping for a speed boost like the other PS1 ports got.

Didn't you break a limb doing that challenge? And everyone else who did it had some horrible thing happen to them to?

It's no Tactics Ogre

I tried to play FFT for the first time earlier this year and I couldn't get over how long the random battles with monsters were taking. Also I was getting annoyed at having to end every turn using focus in order for my characters to get XP if they're not using a different action.

I think the remake can turn off random battles? But I don't know how that would work with leveling up your characters.

but anyways, this is legit one of my favorite games. The most giant, glaring complaint I have about it is it takes SO LONG to level up character jobs and their abilities. The Grind is real, man. I think people have fun when I stream it but I always mention the JP is stupider than it looks

I wish they would lower JP costs for this version but I also know you sorta can't ask for that either because I guess it would make more powerful classes/abilities available faster and having stuff like that earlier would be no bueno

I always stick with the PS1 version because I like using the JP glitch (Ironically achieving what I'm saying is no bueno lmao)

obviously that glitch won't be in this one as it wasn't in the PSP one either, but yea. I have no idea what I want here from this Remaster. Sometime I get excited over it then sometimes I'm pretty meh on it

I'm most excited for an actual good translation for the first time so hopefully it delivers on that front

It uses the PSP translation for the classic version (modern is a new one), but neither classic nor modern has the extra characters/jobs/etc.

This exactly. And now, they generally weren't good. Chrono Trigger's either. WotL's bonus content was also largely mid. Square went through a whole decade of just pushing mid content into ports to say "look, new stuff" when they never needed to.

I'm very excited for this!

I actually really liked FFIV Advance's bonus dungeons, and the ability to swap out your final party. V and VI didn't have that good bonus dungeons though.

There will almost certainly be purists that have SOMETHING to complain about by the new version's QoL revisions. Some people just can't be happy lol

War of the Lions came out the year I finished college. Now the Ivalice Chronicles is coming out the same year as my oldest daughter starts her last year of college. Fingers crossed we get an FFT sequel when my next kids finish college in 9 years!

Fast-forward is honestly enough for me to give this a replay.

It's wild that fast forward was a thing in Chrono Cross 25 years ago and it took nearly two decades for Square to realize this is a really good feature

They put it in the original FF12 Zodiac edition which came out in 2007, so its been something they've experimented with for a while. With how universally well-received it was you'd think they would have included it in games more often though.
