I'd say take it with a grain of salt but

A: The ramming vehicle is identical to one seen on family FB posts years ago

B: The alleged shooter's mother made a very long FB post effectively disowning him two days ago

In case there's any issues with the link, he seems to be an LDS church member who is an Iraq War veteran with no as-of-yet known political motivations. This looks like he went postal.

He was a marine veteran? Wow. I also wonder why his mother disowned him. Could be related to why he decided to do this.

I saw the initial picture of that truck in the same spot except the church wall was intact. Police said he drove his vehicle through the front but that picture looks like a fuckin bomb went off.

Guy had IEDs and the building was on fire. Part of the church collapsed.

This picture isn't out of spec with that.

It's a Trump sign, google says captured Jun 2025 so it's likely a Trump Vance sign. People are trying to suggest it's "Stop Trump" even though Trump is above the stop.

Funny that they're trying to spin it like that, when it could also be interpreted as a Trump stop, ie, a place where Trump can rest.

It's expected rather than amusing. They keep saying there is a "stop trump sign" in is yard. Some even say it's a "Stop over trump sign" which is just objectively wrong. I went to google to look up his address just to make sure it was even there. The picture I posted was one I snipped myself from google street view. Cant tell if the second word is Vance or Pence but it's absolutely Trump for the first word.

Edit: Apparently a Meijer that is near the suspects house got a bomb threat last night. Not sure if it's linked or not?

It's extra dumb because this shooting is almost assuredly some personal matter that blew up to violence but gotta play teams as always.

My wife and I were discussing if it was Kirk related because he was shot by a guy who grew up Mormon.

Despite the best efforts of the conservative lie machine yes. They keep linking a Blue Origin employee with the same name who lives in VA donating to blue pacs. They are posting a facebook post from some random guy with the same name. They are posting a random guy from WI with the same name who is a registered democrat. They are claiming it's a "Stop Trump Sign" when it isn't.

The guy is registered to vote with no party affiliation. Has a Trump Vance sign on his property. His pictures and Truck all point a certain direction, but there is really nothing that indicates this should be a political issue.

Doesn't seem like this incident was politically motivated, but it still highlights that violence isn't tied to a political side like Trump and maga keep pushing.

Even when not specifically politically motivated, the MAGA culture is going to be highly correlative with gun ownership and thinking violence can solve problems.

I feel like people are starting to care less about this. The spin that "The left's rhetoric is causing more violence" seems to be effective because no one is challenging it enough despite that argument being bullshit (the DOJ literally removed a study showing more political violence is carried out by people with right wing ideology). There needs to be more pushback imo.

Uh... there was the tesla bomb... in vegas? (think it was vegas) That is probably the one you're thinking of. I think the fire at the Jacksonville airport was just a tesla blowing up on it's own without a bomb if I recall correctly.

I can't speak for the Mormons, but as someone who was not raised as a JW but became one in my 20s I'll say this:

I can understand why people feel that way. The changes made by those who become JWs like not celebrating holidays and birthdays, refusing medical treatment involving blood, or lifestyle changes that seem outdated can be a shock.

But when someone says "oh you're not allowed to do x" that's not necessarily true. I choose to do some things -like preach door to door- or not do things -celebrate holidays- because that's how I honestly feel.

This is a question I always have of people in specific religions.

Do you do door to door (or [insert missionary work of choice]) really because you want to? Or are you doing it because it's a compulsory part of the experience of that religious group?

Even if you enjoy it, could you say no to it and still be part of the community (or just even the religion), despite, for example, holding every other single belief?

I'd ask the Muslims, too. Sure, dressing modestly might feel like a choice and empowerment. How would the community respond, or the rules of the religion treat you, if you dressed immodestly, but still kept the pilgrimage and five prayers and the charity stuff?

Or confession for Catholics. Sure, it feels good to get off your chest, and that's part of why you go. But what happens if you stop doing this thing even if you like and want to do it?

I'm not saying anyone in a religion is in a cult. But I'm definitely side-eyeing someone says, "I do this mandatory thing because I like it and totally not because it's mandatory."

(I only know the catholic answer, to be honest. But I'm legit curious for the consequences on the other two.)
