Anyone who's upset about religion being demonized in JRPGs should go play the Trails series, the Septian Church is consistently portrayed as a force for good, at least up to seven games in, which is far as I've gotten.

In the one Tales game I played, having other people in the party felt kind of pointless because all they did was instantly die over and over again. Has that been improved at all?

I wouldn't say I'm upset by it, it just amuses me how often its a plot point in a tales game.

I only played Zestiria. Don't remember what difficulty I had it at, but it just got comical the way they did nothing but die over and over again. Probably skill issue, I struggled to get into that game.

I was enjoying Tales of Arise plenty until maskface's mask came off fully and the game decided to plotvomit all over me. It could have survived that but everything new it was introducing was rapidly reducing my desire to play. I came here for the story about the heroic liberators taking the horns to their oppressors, not... all this goof shit.

But it also depends on the Tales game.

Vesperia has great AI, probably the best in the series
Berseria has good AI, although the gameplay can be mistake = death
The Xillias has good AI, but there might be times where you want to solo, especially in Xillia 2
Graces AI is ok, same thing as Berseria, but Berseria has a bit of a escape mechanism
Symphonia is... Ok?
Arise AI is Bad, with bad options
Symphonia 2 is ok with terrible options

A lot of the Tales game is kinda dependent on you dominating so your AI team can shine. It's uncommon for the AI to handle on a swarm or boss without human input

Tales games are comfort food. You know exactly what you're going to get every single time.

Ehhhhh not true. You might end up getting an abysmal game with unfinished story and a tedious battle system, like Zestria or Abyss.

Or a terrible story and the dumbest characters of all time, like Graces.

There's a second world and/or nothing was what it appeared to be. Oh, and discrimination. That's like 99% of Tales plots.

Zestiria is probably the worst Tales game ever, so no.

Someone else said it, but its by far the worst game in the series.

Your party members were probably dying because
A) the game was very equipment heavy (kinda like graces f but at least graces f can be brute forced with title spam) in terms of scaling so if you weren't active in fusing everyone then you just fell behind

And

B) the whole duo fuse system of characters was very important and required a lot of switching combos to get through parts, more so than any other tales game. Also by virtue of characters fusing you were basically always forced into a 2 party system compared to all other games where all 4 are active.

Unless it's Xillia, in which case allow me to reveal a completely new plot and the old plot you thought you were playing doesn't actually matter.
